Chris Keegan and his sister Mis* Anna arrived home Monday from Port land where Mr. Keegan had lx-en for the past six weeks under a »¡x-cialist's care for treatment of one of his eye* tlmt was affected as a result of an attack of the smallpox. The injured eye has almost regained its former strength and he can see with it readily but will have to wear colored glasses for some tunc to shield it from strong light. Mr. Keegan went to Ashland Thursday to see his partner J.W. Jacobs,with whom he is comliicting a marble works in tlmt place. The young men had just opened their shop and Mr. Keegan had worked but two days when he was taken sick. Their business prosfiects are very flattering and Mr. Keegan hopes to be able to do his full ¡»art hereafter to make their venture a success. Watkins Items. Mr. E. C. Fawcett and John Byrne were in Jacksonville the fore jwirt of the week, They report the roads a* being in quite bail condition. Fred Dorn Ims finished his part of the contract on the iqqier part of the new road, and left for California last week, where he has gone to spend the summer. Sam Rogers, who 1ms lx-en spending the winter at Joe Creek near his claims, was down in Watkins Monday to get his mail and visit frie nds. He states that snow is quite deep at his place. To all appearances the long continued rain is at an end. This Ims been the longest rain spell in this section for a number of year*. Geo.
