Phil Metachan, Jr., proprietor of the

his wife, who had been here for the past
three weeks left tor their home. Mr.
Metschan states that Heppner is sjxe lilv
recovering from the cloudburst disaster
and that many buildings are lx-ing put
up to take the place of those washed a-,
wav. As to business conditions he states
that it is Ixtter than for last summer. Mr. I
Metschan's hotel is one of the finest in
Eastern Oregon ami the building was
not injured by the flood blit the furnish
ings on the lower floor were totally ruin
ed. He now has it fully refurnished and
is doing a very profitable business.
The Antioch school district from hav
ing an old, ill-appearing school building
will soon have one of the handsomest
and best furnished houses in the county.

windows and doors are Ixing put in and
a new floor laid. When this is finished
the building will lx m-atly painted and i

tn to have school start next month, but i
as yet no teacher has lx-en engaged. The

fully alive to the interests of their dis
trict and to their public spirit in taking

district in keeping up with the march of
progress that is now on in Jackson
county.
