D. C.. December 2, 2. and «, 1931. Congressman DePriest has tendered his resignation as head of the League which was accepted by the Executive Committee at lta meet ing Thursday. Mr. DePriest pleaded that there would be added demands upon his time In connection with hla | gislative duties, especially In view of the fact that he will move up in the seniority scale of the House. His in terest In the work of the League, in furtherance of a far-reaching program for the Negro, is reported not in the least lessened by his resignation. Dean Kelly Miller was elected to fill the vacancy. He said that in the re sent election colored voters divided their votes among party candidates according to the rating of men and measures, rather than a blind adher ence to mere party organizations. He liotnted out that a new- administration is about to be Inaugurated but that the problem of the Negro citizen and his claims remain Just as they were before, and an early conference is nec essary. Professor Miller Is therefore now actively at work on plans for the proposed session on March 3rd. This meeting is intended to comprise all the delegates who attended the origi nal meeting and such others as de sire to take part in the new program and make a constructive contribution to the effort.
