In cases w here the larynx and neigh boring stru c tu re s are involved b re ath in g m ay becom e so difficult th at em ergency a ctio n has to be taken to prevent death. O th e r in dividuals m ay suffer purely g a s tro intestinal sym ptom s, show ing severe abdom inal pain, nausea, vom iting and diarrhea. A m o st in te restin g ty p e of a n ap h y laxis has com e into prom inence since prohibition T h e various poorly m ade b ran d s of bootleg liquors are th e cau s ative factor.
