These pictures of the Nicaraguan disaster were sent via airplane and the telephoto service of the Ameri- can Telephone and Telegraph Com pany. The picture* left the flying field near Managua at 1:30 P. M. on Wednesday. April L l i a Pats American Airways plane, traveling on IU regular mall schedule. The plane reached Havana, Cuba, by way o f Salvador. Honduras, and Mexico at 8:1$ P. M.. Thursday, and a special plane with motor running was waiting. This plane took off for Miami ten mlnntes af ter the arrival o f the plane from Nicaragua. It reached the Florida city at 7:30 P. M. Special arrange ments had been made there with the customs service, so that there was no delay. Ten minutes after their arrival In Miami the films were in the air again In another special plane bound for Atlanta. Oa., the nearest point where telephoto sending ap paratus Is maintained. The films reached Atlanta at 1:0$ A. M.. Fri day, April 3. There they were sw iftly developed, and within a few minutes nine picture* were ready for the telephoto machine. A t 3:30 A. M. the first was In New York, ready for publication, and at the same time they were also speed ing on the telephoto circuit to the cities of SL Louis, Cleveland, Bos ton.
