Dr. DeNorval Unthank and his family
were the victims o f Portland's latest
outrage against a Negro member o f the
community, when vandals stoned the
windows o f the house at 750 Knapp St.
street, Friday morning into which he
was moving his family. Dr. Unthank
had arranged to buy this home with a
local realtor and had concluded the
deal when early this week, he was visited
by a delagation from the Better Homes
group o f that neighborhood. This dele
gation showed him a petition signed by
seventy-five residents o f the neighbor
hood, objecting to his moving in. The
doctor offered to move if they would
pay inn) a bonus o f $7iAI on his con
tract. The apparent leader o f the group
called this blackmail. (T w o teachers on

following in his footsteps. They stated
that Washington

group left without coming to to an
agreement.
Friday morning when the
doctor and his family arrived, they
found the windows all broken. A group
o f men friends went out to stay with
Mrs. Unthank and their 16 months-old

wht) would not like to clear $1155 in the next few weeks. Certain
it is that the average is not picking up over $100 a week these
days. Yet, The Advocate is puttHig up $1500 in cash and a

the man or woman who will make some effort to help themselves.
There is over $100 a week in it these next few weeks for
the person who will go out and do! There’s $1155 in it for you.
There is a beautiful eight-cylinder car and cash prizes and a cash
commission for every active candidate who does not win one o f
the big prizes. You absolutely cannot lost.
Big Enough for You—
If you were approached with a proposition that stood you
to make $1155 in the next few weeks, you would stop short and
think, would you not? It does not make any difference how big
you are; the bigger you are, the more you will pause. You would
hear the proposition— you would consider it. If at all reasonable,
you would take it.
^
Right now, in these times, when men are thinking o f the
necessity o f getting money— when men are trying to increase
their income— $1155 is a sum that is to be desired— no matter
who you are!
