The fact that a colored woman had hern named on the jury was haled a* unusual, hilt when the judge asked for the verdict from the "foreman and Mra. Bogie stepped forth to an nounce the verdict even the judge wa» astounded and stammered "I heg your pardon, forelady.” MISS JOHNSON'S STORY Will APPEAR IN THE ADVOCATE Mr and Mr*. C. H. Hinford, of 1492 Winona street are the proud owners of a very attractive dog who answers to the name of "Pal.” Recently, while working in the garden, Mr. Binford lost a cigar out of his vest pocket. After a search that to him seemed ages, Mr. Binford employed Mrs. Bin- ford to aid in the search for his “smoke." "Pal” sensing something was missing without invitation joined in the search. After digging away the loose dirt from around a plant, "Pal” looked at his mistress and barked. She came forward and beheld the lost cigar right tinder his paws. In the rejoicing that followed the find, "Pal" seemed to he the most enthusiastic by barking and leaping upon his master. The Binfords, Mr. or Rev. (for he is a minister) who observed his 79th birthday anniversary last November, and Mr*, who was 79 on the 20th of this month, are Happy and thankful, they say, to lie alive.
