“ Smart Penny," Lucy praised. "Sec

At this flattery the dog danced a-

had redeemed himself in the eyes of

Mr. Drooley, a genial Irishman,
with red chcccks and a long upper

joke with a lady customer.
“ Yes," he was telling her, "folks

she had a self-starter jaw '*

"You disgusting little hoyden," the
woman charged. “ You spoiled my

1 was in attendance with a Minis
terial Alliance the other day, where
they deplored the disposition of their
congregations to drift after any
“ isui." The consensus of their opin
ion was that the fault lay in the
churches themselves and directly in
the pastors. These were seasoned
ministers wbo made these statements,
men of great achievement in church
building, but they were not satisfied
with the brand of Christian that the
church is producing
I might as well slop here to say
that I love the church and that where
I shall lay bare some of her eating
sores it shall only be that we may
better sec how to apply the surgeon's
knife to them. Criticism yes, but con
structive criticism These ministers
voiced as the great need of the
church that we stop feeding it "gra
vy" and "sensation" and feed the peo
ple with the "meat" of the word This
is identically the object of these arti
cles.
The author has discovered through
years that the great mass of our peo
ple and in fact American people and
many young pastors have no settled
convictions. They have no “ root”
and when the winds of fully and dis
aster begin to blow they lose their
footing and rush off after anything
During the years that I wrote for a
great Race weekly, people often told
me, “ I was reared with those same
principles but of late years I find no
one lifting high standars and I sup
posed I, being by myself, was wrong
and threw my high ideals away."
How negligent we have been as a
leadership While we have been pos
ing as big people, society lions, and
have been indulging our appetities,
men perish for truth.
If the masses of the people will no
longer study the Bible then we must
carry the correct interpretations of
the Bible to them. As a church lead
ership we arc asleep, we are not in
forming ourselves and the young
