P In moving against the mayor An offi­ cial note of Inquiry was sent by the Mexican embassy to the Secretary of State of the United States on Sep tember It, requesting full reports on the alleged deportation of Mexican cltixens from the Pennsylvania steel town. The embassy further announc­ ed It had instructed the Mexican con­ sulate at Philadelphia to proceed to Johnstown and report. The embassy contended the mayor bad no legal authority to expell peaceful Mexican residents. Anderton, D.D., pastor of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, of Portland. Rev. Anderson came to Portland Just four years ago. accepted the call to the pastorate of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, with about a doxen working members. Two years after­ ward. the church voted to build a new church, having only $21600 in the bank for building purposes. The church appointed a building commit­ tee, making Pastor Anderson chair­ man of said committee. On the first Sunday in October, 1921. the corner stone was laid. Dr. O. C. Wright REV. (white),' the executive secretary of the Oregon Baptist Convention, de­ livered the principal address at the ground-breaking on the 8th day ot this year (1923). The church was dedicated between that time and the corner stone laying. Later, the church became divided, and everything that could be done was done to make the leadership of Dr. Anderson a failure; at one time one of the members tried to take his life, but that did n't stop him. it was said that he would nev­ er finish the church, but he did; he has done more than any minister of our race that ever came to Portland. He surely Is a hustler, an excellent preacher and a successful pastor. He has a fine wife, a nice home, lives in one o! the fashionable districts of our city; drives a fine automobile, and it Is said bis church the best choir in the city. Rev.
