up the bootlegging game in the fol

the Volstead amendment has smiled
with favor upon a large proportion
of the people of the black race. In
these days and times bootlegging
seems to be both a respectable and
a profitable undertaking. It has ele
vated many men to high society, re
sponsible positions and allowed them
to put the gold door knobs of pros i
perity upon their dwelling places. It
has also aided the black man iq ac
quiring wealth and the greater com
forts of life and while he has placed
no gold knobs upon his doors he has
bought some fine houses, some high-
powered automobiles and
stored
some money behind the -steel door
knobs of the banks.
Strange that so much profit should
be procurable from the violation of
the law, yet it has been ever thus.
The South has profited immensely
out of the Infraction of the four
teenth and fifteenth amendments. It
has maintained a peonage system
and exploited black labor at the ex /*■
pense of the law and even murder
In the form of lynching has been up
held and tolerated because of its ec
onomic background, Systems of jur-
isprudenc* seem powerless to en-
force laws, that the majority do not
desire and the fourteenth and flf-
teen th and the Volstead amendments
to the Constitution of the United
8tates are not popular and when the
law did not enforce them in due
course society began to make profit
out of them, but the rule works both
ways.
The black man is now making
profit out of the infraction of the
law the same as the South did and
America would be staggered if it
could compute the wealth that has
been amassed by the black people
out of the booUeg industry and the
bootlegger is an angel in comaripson
with the slave driver and the lyncher
Maybe if the laxity of law enforce
ment continues the black people not
only will have automobiles diamonds
and fine homes, but they will also
have some gold doorknobs on their
doors.

THE SAME OLO STORY
These poor little innocent white
women are deserving of much sym
pathy for being led astray by young
colored boys. And the poor, inno
cent white men, God bless them, are
to be pitied for being so easily
vamped by colored women. We won
der why the colored vamps and
vampesses don't let these poor little
innocent things alone.
Of course, the white man is quick
to holler when his side is invaded by
others, but what of himself who has
stolen the virtue of colored women

white man answers that he is. Then
it is his duty to set the example for
his inferior brother; if he is the su

newspapers stories of himself being
relieved of his wallet by "negresses".
What is he doing down where these
“negresses" are?
