Simmons truly stated the tact* Entirely too many of our people who know a tew lan guages. spend their live* boasting that fact; yet at the same time, they are dependent for their very exiat- ence on the man whose language they would learn. And this same m*n i* laying aside his language for America's. The Advocate is not op posed to any one learning the various languages or getting higher educa tion of all kinds, but we wonder if it is wise to spend ttoe and hard earned money to learn languages when there I* no possibility of using them In the profession or occupation one expects to follow. It is nothing unusual to find some of our college and high school graduates doing menial work, it I* a common thing to find men who know Greek. French. Latin and the Spanish languages holding job* as porter*, janitors. waiters. boot- black*. Something surely must be wrong somewhere. This being an indisputable fact, colored voter* are aaking and demanding a new ar rangement. and unleas made by the G. O. Oregon's office holders care very little about the colored vot* to Judge by the niggardly con sideration shown them in the way of political recognition. This may have had something to do with Ore gon, a Republican state, having ■ Democratic Governor and a Demo cratic Congressman. Magnus Johnson is the name of the newly elected United States Sen ator from Minnesota and if frankness and homeliness count for anything, Mr. Johnson is another man of the Lincoln type.
