NEW PINE CREEK ITEMS Lakeview, Oregon, Thursday, .lime 12, mill MAN OF Tin: HOI K The farmer is becoming more and more the "Man of the Hour" as his economic importance is understood bet ter. One indication of this is to be seen in a recent statement by an official of the Gerlinger Motor Car Company, Portland, Oregon, factory distributors. "Whenever we succeed in interesting a well to-do farmer or ranchman in car or truck and get him to handle it on the dealer's basis,' said the official, "we have established in that commun ity a business that going to grow from the start. His reputation, aside from the good reputation of the car, is going to sell the goods. There is only one thing in the world that never losea its value and that is fertile land. "If you can get a farmer to handle your line you have an investment 'that is good until the cows oome home." FOOD FOR THOUGHT Turn to page 4 of this issue of the Examiner and read the ad of the Paris ian Millinery. In the d will be found good food for thought. The manage ment of the millinery makes the asser tion that "Perhaps you have seen a fast in some catalog you would 'like. Bring the catalog in with you, we will make up the same hat, of better material, for th same price. We will compete with any millinery establish ment in the Unite 1 States, all we ask is a'fair trial ' Nothing con d ' fairer, ard any in stitution sdopti. g tnis method should be encouraged. And this example should be emulnted by other establish ments in cert an lines. It would be a direct and euV live swat at the (with apologies to ident Wilson) insid ious mail ord r r interns. Elks have received email flags to wear on this occasion. The public recognition of Flag day as a national anniversary, each year becomes more general. On that da throughout this country the day is suitably celebrated with thi unfurling of new flags in parks, over school buildings and other public buildings. The vsrious patriotic organization of the cities never fail to recognise the day in some way. Practically all of the public scoools of Portland will celebrate the day on the Friday pro ceeding with suitable exercises. - Officers Elected At the annual meeting last Saturday of the stockholders Tof the Bunting Telephone and Teligrapb Co., held here in the First National Bank, the following officers were elected : Preaident, F. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Hampton who are bora visiting relatives from Paisley expect to remain until after the Bap lift association which belns Thursday June 12, and continues over Sunday. Quite a large delegation of people ia here. The ball game between Davis Creek toys and New Pine Creek bovs Sunday afternoon waa quite interesting. Dav s Creek boys won by only a few tallies, but nevertheless we will be glad to have them come again. Mrs. Bessie Brlles came up on a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Berry, and also to be near the Doctor, as she has been quite poorly since her arrival. She is reported better at this writing. Joe Smith has been having some re pairing and remodeling done at his home on the California side. Mrs. Chas. Harvey was called to the bedside of her mother a few days ago at Likely, Cal. We understand that ber mother has been very ill, tut have heard no definite report as to how she is getting along. Pete Follett has arrived home from a trip over to Rochester Nev. and we understand, Mrs. Reeder and Ira Smith's family will arrive shortly. They left here about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Mrs. Bert Kuak visited with relatives north of town a few days last week. The moving pictures displayed by Mr. Wendt Saturday and Sunday nights entitled "Star of Bethleham" were splendil. Pictures like those leave a lasting impression upon the mind and have as good influence as reading a good book, or hearing a ser mon, as the pictures demonstrate tbe idea and leaves a laating impression. Mr. and Mrs. Helgerson Monday re turned from a business trip over to Surprise Valley. Uwing to the inclement weather Sunday morning only a small attend ance was out to tbe cnildren's day ex erci9es and basket dinner. Corn Show The O.W.R. & N. Co. has just issued a folder describing the corn show to be held December 5 and 6 at Pendleton, Prizes to the value of 11000 in cash and farm implements will be awarded for the best exhibits of corn grown in the country tributary to tbe Oregon Washington Railroad & Navagation Co. during tbe season of 1913. The faces of the many farmers who were in town Saturday were radaint with joy over the refreshing rain which fell Friday night. They all feel tnat it will be a great crop maker.
