"Joaquin" Miller, the renowned
poet of the Sierra, died last Monday
in his one-room ratin, whieh he built

A statement of Paisley's financial
circumstances published in the Che
waucan Tress shows $1636.40 in the

good record for a newly Incorporated
town. May their prosperity continue.
By all the boomerang articles on the
new Rochester mining camp in the
Reno Journal it would appear that they
had a second E. Chapin Card on the

Young Woman's Estimate of a Young
Man" is the subject of a sermon to be
preaohed at the Methodist Church
Sunday night. This sermon is based
on answres to letters sent to a number
of Lakeview's young women. Come
and hear it.
The Missouri Supreme Court has
refused to modify the judgment of
ouster against the Standard Oil Com
pany from that state, and the original
order, ousting the company from the
state, now stands. The original order
was issued more than four years ae;o.
J. F. Hanson arrived Saturday even

Darnell's Band, consisting of fifteen
pieces, will go to New Pine Creek to

for the purpose of buying another horn
to add to their eauipment. The boys
have been practicing for this event fur

During his present American tour
Harry Lauder ia receiving $4000 a
week. Every pay day he demands
three $1000 bills, one $500 bill and the
remaining $T00 in assorted change.
The report is that Lauder sends the
bills of large denomination to England,
where they are banked on arrival.
Lauder is the highest paid attraction
in vaudeville and when he has salted
down $1,000,000 he says he will retire.

Miss Murrell Williams closed a six
month term of school on the West Side
last Friday, and is visiting in town this
week. She has been re-employed for
four months. The West Siders arei

any other ditsrict in the county will
muiiitum. Miss Williams is one of the
btrocgtist teachers in the county, and
the directors show their desire for
schools and their appreciation of good
work by continuing her services to the
end of the school year. The district
has asked for Prof. Gardner to deliver
a lecture there in the near future.
