They report over two feet of snow on the Lava Beds a circumstance that haa not ocourred in aeveral years. All sheep in that section are being fed but as there is plenty of hav no danger in the loss of stock is feared. Dan F. Brennan, local clerk in the Fremont National Forest office, was very pleasantly aurpriBed last Thursday night by the arrival of his father, D. P. Brennan. Mr. Brennan Sr. comes from Holvoke, Mass., and will visit with his son for several weeka. This is his first trip waBt, and as a consequence was surprised at as well as pleased with the country. It required five and a half days to reach Lakeview. F. M. Oreen, a prominent Goose Lake Valley stockman, returned laat Saturday from Sacramento where he has been the past few months wltn his family who are apending the Winter in the California capitol. Mr. Green would have returned earlier had it not been for the sioness of his son, Clarence. The young man waa taken with an atiacK of appendicitis but Mr. Green aavs lie haa entirely recovered. The Senate has passed a bill intro duced by Senator Jones, of Washing ton, providing that persons who had established residence on unsurveyed public lands prior to the passage of the three year homestead law may, when their land are surveyed, makes proof under either three or five-year law, as they may elect. The bill is of especial benefit to settlers on lands containing more or less timber. Mage Fine came over from Warner Valley last Friday. While engaged ! in the various pursuits about the ma-1 chine she allowed her bead to come! near enough in contact with an upright shaft, while in motion, to entangle portion of her hair which was extract ed before the machine could be stop ped. The pain was reduced and aside from loosing a portion of her hair, Alice is none the worse from the ex perience, but is back on the job with au alert eye for any similar appliance to that with which she came in contact. Trades for Timber Land J. F. May field, formerly of the Goose Lake Valley Meat Co., haa acquired the A. M. Hardisty ranch in the Crook ed Creek Valley, he tradirg in his town property to Mr. Hardisty on the deal. The ranch consists of something over 400 acres and oontaina some valuable timber and hay land. Mr. Hardisty will move to town and en guge in the wood business. J. F. Mayfleld and family expect to leave shortly for California where he will obtain treatment for his eyes that have been troubling him copsiderably of late. He will likely lease out his ranch in the Crook Creek Valley and remaina way indefinitely.
