Father Kern has been quite ill with a very bad cold for the past week, but we are pleased to report that be Is now considerably better. Dave Jones, tbe sheepman, was in last week from the desert and sayi that conditk ns out there are the bst he baa seen for some years. We are glad to bear It. Dso Jones and Earl Wilsblre, sheep men from tbe Valley Falls section, were local visitors some days ago. Their stock are being fed bay and are in ex cellent condition. Lent will begin early tnla yar on February 12th. As a natural conse quence, Easter will also come early March 23rd, the earliest ever, except ing in 1818, when Easter day fell on March 22nd. A midnight mass was offered Tues day night, , December 24th, In the Catholic church bere, a large number of people being in attendance. Services were also held at 10 A. M. the next morning, Christmas Day. An exciting runaway occurred on Water street, this city, some few days ago when the big black team belonging to W. K. Barry started on a mad gal lop from the owner's residence, rounded the corner between the B. & M. store and tbe Bank of Lakeview, and was finaliy slopped at the entrance to Bul lard canyon.
