P. it is now reported that the Gould in terests have been eliminated from the controlling position in the Western Pacific. This report follows the re- i turn of First Vice-President C. H. j Schlacks from the east where he bad I been in conference with the bankers and other interests relative to the sit i nation ot Western Pacific lines. The reported reason for their retir ing was the pointed demonstration to them that they either put up more money for extensions or get out. Who has taken over the interest is not known, but it is stated that an aggres sive policy will be inaugurated at once. Among tbeir proiected plans and work Brit eoiiten plated Id the construction of a branch line up through Surprise Valley. (High Grade News) A new leasing company has been formed to work what Is known as Block 6 of the Sunshine High Urade Mining Company's ground, which ground was commonly called the Schauera and Laughlp leas. The new Icaasing company is vailed "The Lucky Dutchman No. 2" after Fred L. Schrott, tbe original "Lucky Dutch man" and who ia manager of the new company. The other gentleman Inter ested are V. II. Shell formerly Super intendent of the famous Strong Mine at Cripple Creea, Colorado, Mr. J. H. Miller, proprietor of the Ilign tirade hotel at New Pine Creek and H. Her aebberger formerly with the MolTat mining companies ot Colorado. That they have great faltb in the lease is evidenced bv the fuel that while the lease ia dated August first they started four men working several days pre vious to that date and installed rails, ore car etc. Many tons of slide rock have been moved and sinking will be pushed aa rapidly aa men and money can do it They estimate that they have from lt to 20 tone of float on the surface that will return a handsome profit from shipping. Grab samples have assayed from &0 to S240 per ton while a considerable portion of it will run into the thousaands, the gold be ing ao liberally sprinkled over the rock that a glaxa is not required to ascertain ts richness. Manager Schrott ia so well pleased that be is devoting all of hia time to developing the ground having engaged other helo to continue development on the original Lucky Dutchman lease on the Yellow Jacket property and which lease ia every day proving more and more of a tonaanza and sending away the skeptical with proof that this camp is on the map to stay and with prac tical work rich ore can be found and developed. I The work on the new lease will be watched with great interest ty the mining fraternity not only here but elsewhere.
