LET THE CHILD EAT CO00. WHOLESOME FOOOS TO
HIS HEARTS CONTENT. IT WILL NOT HURT HIM IF
YOU SEE THAT HE GETS REAL F0009 AND NOT SAWDUST.
Ho mt onlv want but lie neeils a lot of jam, pie, otike nml other
fooJi containing Migar. If bo pots tlio nccewury amount of miixnr in
bis diet lie will nt develop an abnormal appetite for
-alio and other .vf etuieata. All children wriggle
continually. This is a healthy sign of energy, but
if the child ia deprived of the PKOl'KIl AMOUNT
OF FOOD, AND ESPECIALLY SITC1AK, which
ia an important food, bo is apt to develop some po
cifio nervous disease.
A child ten years old requires two-thirds as much
food as an adult. At fivo bo requires ouo-hulf ns
much, at four bo requires about three-eighths anil
at tvro rears of ago onc-qunrter.
Then, too, thc KIXD OF FOOD SHOULD HE DIFFERENT
FROM THAT OF AN ADULT. It will surpriso many to know
that a child REQUIRES MORE MEAT in proportion to tho total
consumption of food than docs an adult. Give him all tho REAL
FRESH BUTTER he wants. It w highly nutritious, and his eysteui
needs it. THE BEST OF ALL ( Elil-ALS IS WHEAT.

PATIENCE ON
INFLICTING A
tlflHtttl FINE AS PENALTY IS INFLICTING PUNISHMENT ON
THE INNOCENT STOCKHOLDERS. PENALTIES SHOULD BE LAID
UP6N PERSONS RESPONSIBLE.
Under wiae guidance combinations and consolidations of capital
can bo directed to advantageous ends. Tho question about them is
cot bow they may bo averted, but how they may be UTILIZED
AND CONTROLLED FOR THE BEST GOOD OF THE COM
MUNITY. A trust is a dominant combination of money, property,
business or commercial power or energy.
I have always labeled things honestly. If it was a tomcat I called
it a tomcat, and if it was black I called it black, and I have mado
no mystery of the fact that from black c;tts you must not expect white
kittens.
Whatever bo tho promoting or direct cause of combinations, in
dustrial or financial, they have become and today ARE AN INTE
GRAL ELEMENT IN THE STRUGGLE OF THIS NATION
FOR COMMERCIAL SUPREMACY.
THE REAL EVIL IN AGGREGATION OF CAPITAL AND CORPO
RATE AND OTHER COMBINATIONS LIES IN MEN. IN CHARACTER.
NOT IN THE COMBINATION AS A WHOLE. THE TROUBLE IS
PERSONAL. THAT'S WHY THE PENALTY TOR WRONGDOING
SHOULD BE PERSONAL.
The practice of doing or acquiescing in the d'ir.f; by men in syndi
cates or as members of a corporate aggregation of nCts which the indi
vidual WOULD NOT DO IN BIS PRIVATE LIFE, upon tho
theory that syndicate and corporate morality is one thing and indi
vidual morality is another, results in the total suppression of indi
vidual honesty and morality.

fmsr I OF AMERICAN THOUGHT TODAY. EVERYTHING IS
rA i BEFORE THE BAR OF INVESTIGATION. THE PEO-
I ft J PLE ARE UNIVERSALLY SUSPICIOUS. PERSISTENT
I ' BETRAYAL IS MAKING PESSIMISTS OF THEM ALU
America started out ultra pretentiously as the
PROMISED LAND for the oppressed of all countries. The refu
gees of any of them today, to say nothing of the natire born, can tell
how miserably tbia vaunted claim has failed.
Capital today is combining on every hand. Prices are being forced
to the utmost limit upon every commodity. Union labor is being at
tacked on every band. The unanimous acclaim of combined capital
is for the open shop. Out of it all will come conflict I may make it
more emphatic, A BATTLE. It is inevitable. Already there U
growing talk of a general strike. Labor leaders are advocating it.
And that in all other countries has meant REVOLUTION. AMER
IOA CANNOT HOPE TO ESCAPE the inevitable rule.
OUT OF IT ALL WILL COME HEALTHIER CONDITIONS. HIS
TORY WILL REPEAT ITSELF. WEALTH WILL COME TO KNOW
THAT RUTHLESS TRESPASS OF THE COMMON RIGHTS CANNOT
PREVAIL. A BETTER AMERICANISM WILL FOLLOW A BROADER,
MORE HUMANE AND MORE CONSIDERATE CITIZENSHIP.
The ideal, of the framers of our constitution will come nearer
realization. V.'FAETH no longer will flagrantly dominate the na
tion's councils.
