Sprouse and Ben Honors have 'come down from the east slope of High Grade hill with a sack of sam ples from the Seattle and Golden Thread claima which are among the best specimens of mineralised quarts ever exhibited from that section of tbe camp. This property is half a mile east of the school section and the new town of High tirade. The ore pans well and is heavy in Iron sulphides showing evidences of both gild and silver. Mining men who have seen the ore orononuce It first class. It is similar to the ore from the Sunshine, Moijc and Last Dollar mines. These boys have been in- camp for year coming from Nevada where they had varied experiences. They have a number ot promising claims and will begin active development at once. Pickett Surveys Sunshine (High Grade News) Mr. R. U. Pickett our enterprising Deputy V. S. Mineral Surveyor has been emoloyed to make final survey for patent of the Sunshine, Yellow Jacket and Gascon Fraction for the Sunshine High Grade Mining Com pany. This is a wise movement. More than sufficient work has been done on the properties to justify sn application for patent. Delays, In tbe matter of rushing properties to patent are usual ly dangerous. Much damaging litiga tion originates in a lack of caution up on the part of property holders In all new traders in all new camps. Mr. Picbett ia one of the ablest min ing snd civil engineers in the West and accurate work on the Sunshine group is thereby aisured. EXCITEMENT AT CEDARVILLE PASS District Rapidly Expand ing: With Disappear ance of Snow (High Grade News) Word has just resched the News office of tbe discovery of rich free gold on Cedarville Pass about forty miles south of New Pine Creek opposite Al turas on the Warner range. Prospectors have been operating in that region for several weeks. Several Pine Creek people left for the new field Tuesday and others will follow. No authentic reports have as vet reached this office, but old timers as sert that gold has been found in that region for tbe last half century. Tbe prediction of the News that there will be a dozen rich camps In the range seems now assured of fulltil-ment. Owen Johnson Improving New York Times : Owen Johnson, tbe author, wh has been ill at his home, 327 Lexington Avenue, with typboid fever, was reported yesterday to be progressing favorably. He has passed the crisis of his illness, and his speedy recovery is expected. Dr. Alexander Lambert has been in deily attendance upon Mrs. Johnson has been at bis bedside almost continually since the first signs of his illness. It is be lieved that Mr. Johnson is suffering from a slight attack of "walking ty phoid." Mr. Johnson's speech st tbe publishers dinner at the Hotel Astor on Thursday was dictated to a sten ographer and then read by a toast master. Anglers who bavs been whipping Link river for the big Lake trout and delicious Rainbow are compelled to hunt other fishing grounds since June 1. The fishing season in Link river ended on June X and ;ill not reopen until September. Attention is called to tbe splendid tribute in this issue of the Examiner in honor to C. E. M c O I e a r y , whose death occurred at New Pine Creek last month. The article is from the pen of the able editor of the High Grade News, and we consider it well worth reading. Cedarville Record : Honey Lake val . ley ia now enjoying a boom, snd Sur prise Valley haa been badly exposed and is exhibiting some of tbe symn- toms, while High Grade is out of sight in boomland. Later on Big Valley will fall into line with a big boom,, and along with Lakeview boom, it will be boom, boom, boom, all through this section of the country. A prominent party of rairoad partiea beaded by W. P. Davidsou, president of tbe Oregon & Western Colonization Co., E. C. Leedy, general immigration agent of the Great Northern and s ev ent other leading representatives, have just completed a tour of Central Oregon. He informed us thst the XL property just north of Alturss hsd reverted to Mr. Hereford but that the latter gentleman was on a deal with parties for the property. It is to be hoDed thst this splendid property will fall into the hsnds of men who will subdivide snd sell to small owners. The Exsminer this week received a copy of tbe Seven States Sun, No.l, Vol. 1, a daliy newspaper thst is being published on board the Great North ern's "Seven States Special" which is now touring the Northwestern ststes. Tbis publication has tbe distinction of being the only daliy newspaper in the world actually published on a railway train. It is issued morning and even irj of each day and is certsinly replete with good live advertising literature. It has seven stste governors on its staff. NEVADA IS REPRE SENTED IN CAMP Manager of Colorado and Cherry Creek Mines To Operate Here "Blind Piercer" Caught Alturas Plaindealer: Saturday night three officers, District Attorney Bald win, Sheriff Smith and Deputy Leon Estes, went to New Pine Creek and effected the arrest of Dave Anderson on a charge of running a "blind pig." Anderson was cleverly trapped, Estes snd J. A. Yates, who took the officers in his auto, went to Anderson's place snd first bought a drink snd then a oottie, while tbe District Attorney and Sheriff were looking on. 'He was brought to Alturas and on Monday en tered a plea of guilty and was finert $300 by JuHtice Armstrong. The officers also visited a resort established on Main street bv a Reno woman, but on a promise that she would move was not placed under arrest. e r sou REWARD. Mr. Walker la one of the heaviest owners of the Nevada-Mother Lode Mining Co., of Cherry Creek and also heavy stockholder in Sound Democrat Mining Co., of Sllverton, Col. He Is a man of large experience having mined all over the West. After having examined the Big Four and other properties he expresses the opinion that It will make one of the great mines of the world. Dunaway, Vice Presidnt snd Manager of the N.-C.-O. Ry., Mr. Cbaa. Moran of the firm of Moran Brothers of New York, the owners of the road, together with V. L. Snelling, Live Stock Agent snd C. N. Miller, Publicity Agent snd G. W. Rice, Chief Engineer of the O.V.L. Company, and Wm. F. Paine, accompanied the party who came to Falrport In Mr. Duns way's privste Car Lskeview. It was Mr. Chas. Moran's first visit to this country and he expressed Him self ss wonderfully pleased with tbe surrounding country. He said in sub stance: "I have never seen a more prolific and charming vallev anywhere. It surpasses the picture 1 had formed of it. What pleases me most is to see the reclamation projects so fsr sd- vsnced. Your valley Is incomparably bsautiful and I would call it American Tyrol. I regret that the demands upon my time prevent me from making a prolonged stay in tills part of the coun try and I sssure you that I expect to return at my earliest opportunity." Tbe party looked the new town "of Fairport.over and were much impressed with its besutifull environment and solid advantages. Mr. J. F. HsnBon took the part over to Sunset Point Ranch on the west shores of the Lake and after enjoying the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Hanson they were taken by sutos to inspect the greet dam and irrigation flume of the Oregon Valley Irrigation Co. Nearly a million dollars hss been expended unon the dam and ditches to daie snd in a comparatively short time the West will be under cul tivation.
