MORGAN, Manager, LAKEVIEW, OREGON POSTOFFICEBOX243 RHONE 17 1 Nevada Stats Journal: V. L. Snell Ing, of Lakeview, Oregon better known the "Mark Twain of Southern Ore gon, it a Keno visitor, ana cetween times is spending his odd moments bostlng his home section and telling of the great agricultural opportunities to be found there. Mr. Snelling is one of the pioneer residents of Southern Oregon, and naturally Is somewhat optimlatio over conditions sa they exist around his home regions. He Is interested in the new town of Fsirport, situated about fifteen mites south of Lakeview on Sunset Lake. The new town is locat ed on the Nevada-Californla-Oregon raiiroad.and Is sboot centrally located on the lske, which Is about forty miles in length and from eight to ten miles in width. FairDort is on the esst aide of the lake and Is surrounded by msny new farms. Annroximately 6000 acres of grounds sre now under cultivation, and new acreages are being added to thi total daily. On the west side of the lake ove 50.000 seres of land is to be had. suit able for tilling and the raising of most any variety of crops. In sddition experts declare that over two billion feet of lumber is to be had from the . . . timber forests acceaory to the. con templated mill. Heretofore but little attention has oeen psid to the limber reserves on account of the lack of transportation, but with the N.-C.-O line extended through that vicinity, eaoitsliats sre now contemplsting tbe erection of a mill. A pier will be erected at Fairport shortly and water transportstion will prove a big feature in tbe progress of that district Prsctieslly every foot of the Isnd boderlng on the lske la suitable for agricultural purpose and the water transportation will be re sorted to Dy all farmers. Fairport is so centrally located that it will prove to be the hub of tbe new district. Mr. Snelling ststed Isst evening that Lake county was one of the richest countiea in Oregon. There is more wealth per cspita within the county than in any other county in the atate. In aubstan tiating bis sssertion he said that if the total amount as shown by the assess ment roil wss to be divided by tbe total number of persons in Lake coun ty every man, woman and child would be credited with Tbe county baa $(4,000 court bouse. while a $60,000 high school building bas just been completed st Lskeview In addition tbe Heryford brothers sre building a $100,000 modern three story steel and brick business building. Tbe N.-C.-0. railroad will shortly commence the construction of s $11,000 depot at Fairport and Mr. Snelling predicts that the new town will soon become one of the business localities in that section. Homeseekers are arriving in great numbers in Lske county and Mr. Snelling stated that the number for tbe last year. Tbe last three or four years bss witnessed tbe arrival of a great number of new residents, while prior to that time the arrival of homeseekers wss scarcely noticesble. After spending seversl dsys in Reno transacting business tbst necessitated presence bere, Mr. Snelling will re turn to his home community, and con tinue to grow up with that fast grow ing section. (High Grade News) Snow shovelers from New Pine Creek and Ft. Bid well have opened the road to the Sunshine mine.
