THREE-YEAR BILL IS The Borah-J ones homestead bill has been favorably reported to the House of Representatives by the public lands committee and will probably be enacted into law thia session of Congress. The bill was amended bv the House, but these amendments will be accept able in the Senate. Instead of grsnting a six months' leave of absence each year, the bill provides that the "sett ler or his family" shall reside upon the land at least seven months in each year, and before final proof ia made a habitable house must be erected on the land bv the entryman. No provision has vet been adopted reauiring anv specific amount of culti vation, this subject being still open, but an amendment has been agreed uoon making the bill applicable to all pending unoerfected homestead entries, so thst. if it is passed, homesteaders now striving to comply with the law mav secure title after three instead of five years residence.
