I Unusual activity In mining business is verv noticeable in ths last thirty days. Commencing with the success ful ftnsnoinir of the Modoc Mina Com pany by Messrs. Guvot and Cutler and th starting of work on that property, there has been one continual asritat on in mitnna ever since with new deals and rumors of deals to follow. The control and financing of the Modoc Mines Company has been undertaken bv Wm. Wriiilev. Jr. ('Ihe Spearmint Chewing Gum Mairnate of Chicago) and nia associates. This puts the Modoc Company on the finest kind of financUl basis and insures the development of that splendid property. Manager Cutler informs us that the compsnv will install a steam hoisting plant at the earliest possible moment in the spring and that the company has available a ttne compressor and saw mill plant which will be added as soen as development warrants. In the mean time he is working a small force sinking the shaft bv armstrong power until the snow goes off and opens the boards. The bottom of their shaft is in two ounce ore and developemnt will un doubtedly make a mine of this prop erty. It is said on sood authority that the Sunshine mine, after the owners had taken out a car load of ore averairins about $T00.00 per ton has been "sold for a tig casn price to Mr. F. Wesendan-! ger. the millionaire hotel man of Los ! Angeles. It is also stated bv good ! authority that there is practically in isrht in that mine more than enough ore to pay the purchase price, one shaft 1 on that property showing in the hot-1 torn as it stands todsv a ten-inch streak that will average over 115.00 per ton in I gold. Where is the camp at the same! stage of development that can beat it? j It is also pretty generally understood that '.he Big Four owners are consider- j ing a bona tide offer of $50,000 for their : property with others waiting for a , chance to bid for it. It is highly prob-' able that this deal will be closed in the j near future and if it is. will insure the speedy development of thst immense , surface showing. Ail property in the camp where work is being pushed is showing an improve- ' mcnt and more pcotile are taking hold right now than ever before. The Consolidated mill and mine will nni mwn till May 1st. on account of having to Install a cain di attachment to their mill. ; Mr. N. K. Guvot Is doing snlendid work on the outside In interesting mln-1 ing Diiblic In the new eemo. The Fort Ridwell Roosters Club have decided to co-ooerate with him and we predict thst tiy May lit there will hardlv be accomodations for the neoule coming as the Dree all over the country has finally recognized what a few of ua have always thought and that Is why we have in the Iloag Miring Pi-trict the biggest And since Crinrle Creek. Guvot has coined a new name for the district, calling it "High Grade" and. the name stuck. j A. H. Glasier has been elected as : Corresoonding Secretary of the UiJ-j well Boosters' Club and all inquiries' a it dressed to him or the Fort IMdwell Roosters' Club will receive cromut at- j tention. , The town of "High Grade" will be i platted as soon as the snow disanoears and a post ottlce established, but Fort Ridwell will alwsvs be the starting and suudIv point for the mines and will hsve its broad gusge within tho next eighteen months. To Divide Crook A blan for the division of Crook county is orotosed bv the Culver De velotiment league. Resolutions have been drsfted bv tho organization urg ing the other commercial bodies of central Oregon to join in a call for a convention to be held at Prineville in the near future to consider a clan to carve three counties from the nresent organized countv of Crook. The loca tion of countv scats is to be left until the boundaries nt the oroposed counties have been decided uoon. An effort to divide Crook countv was lost st the laat general election. The countv division advocates argue thst the countv as now organized is much too large for economical administra tion of its affairs.
