Mr. Hanlev is attending the Land Show and will be one of the three On-uuii-ians on the Governor' Sovcial. Gover nor West and Tom Richardson being the other two. An extract from the Hanley inter view follow: "1 just thought I'd take a run down this war. You aee my cow keeo me at home roost of the time, but everv couole of vears I like to take a swing down in the direction of the sunrise. I thought, as this waa the occasion of one of the best land shows ever held, it would be a good time to come. Anv middle initial? Well, to be can did, ves ; but I never use it M id. lie initials have about sore out of use down where I hail from. Oregon is what 1 call an agricultural deoartment store. We grow every thing in the category, and I exoect to see Oregon come rignt to the front among the states represented at the eoasing land show. Of course mv neighborhood is a little out of the beaten path. 125 mile from railroad in fact, at present, but we are looking for a road to come down that wav from present develoDtnenta. Mr. Hill oromises us? No sir. Mr. Hill never promise anything. His first promise is a performance. I don't really think Lewis and Clark would find things much changed right in mv neighborhood, but in the vallev to the north thev might think Ponce de Leon's dream had been realized and thev had found the fountain of vouth. I think the West is todav the logical goal of everv ambitious voung fellow who is willing to put his shoulder to the wheel. The trouble is. too manv merely visit our Const cities and re turn homcxick and discouraged, with out ever venturing into the rural parts. "Back te the farm." is mv slogan and it can't be emphasized too much. Already we are abandoning the idea of utilizing good lands for range pur poses and the voung man of pluck has a better chai ce now than a generation ago ir that country. It is necessary that a fellow have the stick-to-the-finish spirit and not Dull out just as the Bun U about to shine. There are too manv college gradu ates runrir.' around helpless these davs. Your see thev are so poli.-hed it is imooFSiMe for anyone to fasten a hook on them. This. I think. Is due to a ooDUUr belief existing some vears ago; "Give vour bov. something nobody can takeaway from him." In stead, their uarents gave th"m some thing nobody '.( haJ any particular use for. I believe in education bv all means, but let it be more gradual, with some hard knocks thrown in. and then there won't be ao manv lads running around looking for jobs tillirg; fountain pens for ex-Senators and like. I do think, though, that agriculture is the licst thing that a voung man can study if he wants a comfortable future. KOI.KY KII.tEY 1'II.M TuOlc in ai'tioii, 'iiilck In ri ult.
