It is expected tfcst tbere will be same cretervea ecAbliebed in both Coos And Curry counties. Timber holders claim tbat ruAnv of the forest fites are due to the carelessness of hunters and by bavinff their lands Added to the preserves the? will Drotect their timber from fires. After exhaustive tests tbe Deoart rnert of Agriculture his decided the marsh lands on Lower Ktamath LAke to be nractical I valueless for oroo orodoction. c i scccur.t cf the presence of alVslire raltr chief Iv carbonAte of sodium. In a rt-nort just issued by the bureau of nlart industry wbicb has been conducting oracticAl experiments on these lands for tbe past three yeArs. tbe conclusion is reached that "on ac count of tbe hiehlv imbervious charac ter of tbe soil of this marsh land, the leaching ont of the alkaline saltA is rendered very oiffirult And aDDears to be impractical by any method at pre sent known. The exnense would ex ceed the prcfrective values of the land." Tbe report also calls attention to the fact tbat tbe air-drainaee condi tions on tbe Klamath marsh lands are Bach that low temperatures snd killing frotts are likelv to occur every month in the year, thus limiting tbe possible agriculture of ;,the hardier species of crCos. While the paction for investigation shown bv tbe Democrats At tne Aoecial session is certain to have s salutary effect on the various officials of the Government who may have been lax in their methods of administration.it has been a great boon to the official report ers who have bad all the work they could handle. A stenographer wtio takes testimony for one hour daily at a hearing, lie the steel or sugar bear ings, will make S25 a day. in addition to extra fees be will charge to wit nesses or others who want copies of their testimony before be gets bis notes written up; snd tbe thrifty sten orgApher is never in a hurry to write go bis notes before all such side rev enues sre gsthered in. It will be seen, fromt his. that merely the taking and printinz of the proceedings in the various investigations will cost the country manv thoupands of dollars. But the country has Lad a vast amount of entertainment out of it and for that alone, the investigations are doubtless well worth the price. The Bend Bulletin has recently com pleted a political census amongst the country press of Oregon and finds an almost unanimous opinion that Wilson will receive the state's support for tbe Democratic presidential nomination, ton probability tbat Taft will carry tne state, and tbe fact that more than half of Oregon press is of the ooinion that neitner Chamberlain nor Bourne can be reelected if he tried, furthermore. West is is picked bv tbe majority of the papers to succeed Chamberlain, while Ellis. Malarkey and Lowell run about even as choice of successor to Bourne, should the Senator drop out, with one naoer opining that Laffertv may fill the bill "if he gets tbe girl." In ithe presidential race, out of 70 papers having definite opinions, more than 50 say Taft will receive tbe Ke publican nomination. 40 state their certainty that he will 'win in the state, and about 10 believe La Follette will get the nomination ; 50 pick Wilson for liemocratio candidate. 13 of thene counting on I'.m t- i'st- Oregon. axaimtTjft. v iiI j a sj.jI Jialf dozen aoela chunca at tha nomination of Har mon. whilirnone je chance of victory tor Hie U.'.io JuJga. uu uuiiiu share'! Big Tax Sale In the next issue of the Examiner will appear the delinauent tax sale of Lake County for 1911. A large num ber of Oregon Valley contract holders have failed to pay their taxes, and the list ia ouite extended in conseouence thereof. I'ersons not familiar with conditions would conclude that financial conditions hereabouts are in bAd shape but such is not the esse, for with very few exceptions the delinquent tAX- payen Are residents of other states. " WetMFound G ullty C. W. Kinney, of Lookout, and Far ley Auble. of Adin. were this week convicted of selling liquor without a license. Tbev were given a jury trial before tbe Justice of the Peace at Adin. It is stated that tbe barkeeper in Auble 's employ turned state'A evidence. Both pUces Are said to have had licenses from Uncle Sam for the sale of spirituous liauora. The CAses hAve en gendered much feeling in tbe neighbor hood. Roy Shirk at Taft C. L.
