New Pine Creek Items
The taxpayers vied to bond the
Xellv Crk School DiHiict for $4000
to build a rew jcrocl hoiwe at the
cbool election August 15. The dis

Dr. O. E. Patteron has bought a
fine laree automobile.
A. R. Farmer hile notkirg on one
of the towers of the tramwa at the
Mountain View mine was thrown off
by one of the cables to the ground and
has a bsdlv mashed knee. Dr. Patter
son dretffd the wound. Mr. Farmer
was brought to New Fire Creek by

W. H. Cannon baa a stock of com on
exhibition at the Post Office which
measures eleven feet and five inches
in beieht.
Tour correspondent took a trio to
the Mountain View mine last Monday
and were surprised to see the work
order -a there. The ccmrany is
ylscing thousands of dollars wort'i of
improven ents. Thev are just com
pleting the trarowav which will carry
the ore over the hill to the stamp mill.
A large new boarding houte is being
built and we are informed several
thousand feet of lumber is to be hauled
for a rew bunk house and so on. In
going over the road from rine Creek to
the rflii.es we vete surprised to find
such an easy srice. The new road
just built bv the Consolidated Mining
Co. is still soft but after it packs it
will make a good easv grade to travel.
Tfce 6cerery is ;ertainlv great. It is
our belief that the Hoasr Mines will
some dav be a summer resort as well
aa a great mining' camp.
Dr. E. H. Amsden is a very sick
man and Dr. Smith, of Lakeview has
been in attendance on him this weea.
Jinks Plummer who has been sick
for the last few months was seen on
tie street a few davs since.
Mr. ' and Mrs. Carl Adeen and
Theodore Fleming- returned a few davs
' since from a two weeks camping trio.
Daniel Boone our new business man
has moved his stock of goods from
Lakeview to the new building just
completed by Lester Vernon and
Clarence Boyce.
J. L. Cannon and family left for
Cloverdale last Mondav.
Several Indians are ex Dec ted to come
here tbis fall for tbeir winter supplies
in the lire of fruit and vegetables.
Quite a little excitement was caused
last aurday morning- bv three different
runaways. The first was a horse rode
by Miss Minnie Henderson that ran
awav with her and scared Joe Reed's
horse which was hitched to a buggy
that stood in the roadway. Mr.
Reed's horse was rot hurt but the
buggy was badly wrecked. A short time
afterwards Albert Fleming came up
the road with a team hitched to a
buggy going about a mile a minute.
He stopped the team without any
damage done.
H. W. Reed, our shoe and harness
maker has returned to his business
after spending some time m the hills
un a vactation and while away made
posts to fence his homestead and cut
his winter's wood.
Bert Reed is hauling machinery.

to the mines.
Mrs. Killa Harvev is chief cook at
the Consolidated Mining Company's
camp.
There will be a dance in the large
new boarding house at the Consolidated
Mining camp as soon as it is completed.
Lets all go up. girls, you will find a
bunch of fine jolly good fellows up
there.

Sent to Lake County to examine the
depoait surrounding Abert and Sum
mer Lakes, is the mission that has
brought Prof. Edward E. Free. Physi
cist of the Department of Agriculture
here. Thin gentleman, probably one
of the moat expert inthe department,
will examine the soils' of the alkaline
lake an i report as to the potash con
tent contained therein as well as the
many other aalU that are believed will
be found. This will mean much to the
development of this industry, for if
potash ia found in ua.viiiir quantities li
will otrer lare possibilities in the em
ployment of men and machinery to
handle the'uroduct.

work on the N.-C-O. Railway.

in the Oregon House. Sixtb and Klam
ath Avenue, last night about 8:30
o'clock. McKendree is a well known
sheep buyer from Oakland, was out
at the time, and the door was not
locked. The contents of the grip were
valued at $100, No clue to the thief i

Paisley Pick-ups i

The party of viewers, headed by As
sistant County Surveyor Roeers. who
were sent out by the county court to
survey the road from Paisley to
Wagontire, returned to this place Thurs
day of last week. Thev report that it
will be quite inexpensive to put this
road in excellent condition. The
distance from here to Alkali Lake is 36
miles, fiom there to Harney county
line at Waeontire is 24 miles. This
road will be an acquisition to the
county.
We ate informed bv one of the mem
bers of the school board that thev
were disappointed by a teacher whom
they had engaged in the east and this
accounts lor their having no teacher as
yet. One will be secured however, as
promptly as possible.
A few years ago it was not an un
common occurence to see a lot of riders
come to town and. as the saving goes.
"shoot it up. In all frontier towns
there has been an era of lawlessness
which has gradually given away to
peace and order. Paisley is no excep
tion, but the time has come when a
stand must be taken against the mob
rulejthat has so often bad sway. No
community with any self respect can
tolerate acts such as were pernctrated
Saturday night and Sunday morning.
To ufee a phrase that expresses the
meaning forcibly, "the rough stuff will
have. to be cut out." Decent citizens
will not stand for it and if it is neces
sary to jail a few people in order to
preserve the peace this will be done.
There is only one way to'obtain the
proper potecticn against such rowdyism
and that is to incorporate the town
and elect peace officers including a
marshall. who will be paid to be on the
job all the time. We need a man to
make it hla sole business to preserve
the peace. And onlv thus can we have
a decent orderly town.
There it m great opportunity for
someone with a little money to make
more by building a few residence! for
rent We know of Ave peoole who
want to rent houses and cant' find any.
