decided to go deeper with the result as
above mentioned.
Mr. Hale recently purchased the
well drilling outfit from his brother,
and he intends sinking a 14 inch well
in the near future. When he strikes a
flow he will reduce the size of the well,
thus getting the water from all the
flows through which his well may pas.

it, but by reducing the size of the cas
ing it will permit the water to come
up around the smaller casing, and
hence if a second or third flow, as the
case may be, is not struck the flow

State Veterinarian and through, them,
by the United States Bureau of Ani
mal Industry that a large number of
cattle in Lake and Klamath Courties
have become infected with a commun
icable skin disease known as scabies
or mange, -and that unless effective
quarantine regulations are promulgated
and enforced by the State authorities
it will Income incumbent upon the
Federal Government to take action in
the matter;
Now, Therefore, I, Oswald West,
Governor of the State of Oregon, upon
such information and recommendations
do hereby order that no cattle now
within the boundaries of the counties
of Lake and Klamath, in the State of
Oregon, be removed from said counties
into other counties of this State until
the same shall have been duly inspect
ed, found free from disease and permit
for their removal granted as provided
by law, or until such time as this proc
lamation is annulled. And cattle shall
be moved from one locality to another
within the boundaries of said counties
only after permission granted by pro
per State or Federal au thority.
All persons and railroad companies
are hereby ordered and warned not to
handle or remove any cattle from the
above described territory unless ac
companied by a permit or certificate of
inspection issued by the proper Fed
eral or State authorities, or until such
time as this proclamation is annulled.

Mrs. Kittle L. Reeves
Surprise Valley Record : Mrs. Kittie
L. Reeves, for 29 years a resident, of
this valley, and the mother of Chas. II.
Lamb, of this place, died at Pacific
Grove, April 19, 1911. at the age of 73
years, one month and 19 days. Her
remains were, at her request, cremat
ed at the Cypress Lawn cemetery, in
San Francisco. Mrs. Reeves waa well
known and highly esteemed by a large
circle of friends here, who deeply
regret to learn of her death and extend
sincere sympathy ,to the bereaved
ones.

Range Troubles
The range troubles in the Deschutes
j forest and the northern part of the
j county, wherein the ZX Company is
the principal factor, are apparently
auite generally misunderstood. As is
usunl in such controversies there are
two sides tQ the question, and the com
pany claims that the rattle were driv
en off the public range and forced on
to the Forest by interested parties.
All early range was egarly sought this
spring by the stockmen generally, and
the place to which the ZX people took
their cattle is considered one of the
best early ranges in the county. Should
the case come up for heaing in the
United States Courts or'elsewhere some
interesting developments may be ex- j
wcted.
