June 14 Flag: Day
Cioveuor Beuson tias issued a pro
clamation designating June 4 as
"Flag Day," aud ugring that it be
observed by displaying the ting of the
country on alt public buibiings and
places of business, aud by appropri
ale'exercines in the school. The pioo
lunation is as follow,:
Whereas The Continental Congress
on Juae 11 177" selected the emblem
which has ever .iuce contiuunl to be
the flag of our country, and it is fil
ing and proper that da v tie desig
nated aud set apart as "Flag day,"
iu order that suitable exercises may
bo held in the putdic aud other
schools, and generally observd in
commemoration ot that event and for
patriotic respect to our national em
blem. Therefore, I, Frank W. Benson, as
j governor of the state of Oregon, Ho
recommeud that Tuesday, the Ilth
of Jcne, 11M0, be observed not alone
by the schools cf the state, but by
all the peop e thereof, and I urge
that the flag of our country be gen
erally displayed on that clav on all
public and other buildings aud places
of business.
Let us be mindful on "Flag Day"
ol the Biicriflce nud devotion which
have I een given to make this country
free and united, and let us resolve
that in the (lavs of peace our loyalty
to its welfare may be uone the less
earnest
In witness whereof, I have hereun
to set my hand and caused tha Great
Seal of the State to be affixed at i

Circus vs. City
Muuic'pal history reveals the fact
that, atout a month ago the city coun
cil of Medford passed an ordiuance
fixing the license for a circi s to show
in that place at ?lo0, with the result
that the Sells-Floto circus kecured
grounds outside the city limits, aud
left the city of Medtord holding the
bag. At a recent meeting of the!
council a resolution was paused fixing
the license for a street parade at 97o,
when the circus people decided tbat
it wiis not necessary to give a parade
lu that city, and Medford is still
holding the ba.
