N. C. O. Chief Engineer Inspects Valley Pleased With the Possibilities o! Goose Lake Valley and O. V. L. Co.'s Work Ceo S Uliver, chief engineer of the N C O Ky, arrived iu Lakeview Sat urday eveuing, and tbe folloxmg day was shown over Goose Lake Valley by Chief Engineer Rice, of the O-V L Co. While Mr Oliver had previously visited Lakeview, yet it was his first trip out through the valley, and be was greatly surprised at not only the vast amount of tine agricultural land, but also the great amount ot work don) by the O V-L Co. in the way of building canals for tho irrigation of the rioh sagebrush lands. The purpose of Mr Oliver's visit at tbU time was not explaiued, except to tbe effect thnt he desired to post himself in regard to the possibilities ot this sectiou iu the way ot furnish iug tratllo for a railroad, and he gave no intimation as to when the N O O would likely reach Lakevitw How ever, be seemed not ouly surprised but well pleased wtib the situation us be fouud it, and it is not at all improbable something defluite will bb announced as to tb plana of bis road In tbe uear future. IJ it the members of tbe school board have reached tbe conclusion that to ha'e the building and grooods up to date will not answer tbe purpose and Dteds of Lakeview as an educational center, and theiefore are nuw planning for what will probably he tbe require ujenls ten years hence. To tbBt end an endeavor is now be ing made to not oul secure a aalta ble site but also to - obtain grounds sufficiently Urge to answer every pur pose, and even in advance of many of the high schools of tbe larger cities and perhaps encroach upon lines which are now being taught in state univer sities and agricultural colleges. It Is tbe intention to not only provide ground, sufficiently large for outdoor ga ies of all kinds, but also of Each extent as to make a study of horticul tural and agricultural methods pos sible. While several sites have been considered, yet none of those offered met tbe requirements of tbe Board in all particlnrs and at a cost that was not prohibitive with tbe exception of that offered in tbe Sher lock Addition. GOING SOME Purchases Labor-Saving Machinery Wellknown Shoemaker Prepares To Keep Lake County in the Front Rank Lei 11 usel, the popular boot ani shoe man, as well as the leaier of tbe local Socialist colony, bas just installed aCbampiou sbce manfacturing machine and repairing outfit. It consists of a stitcher, finisher, trimmer, butler and sand paper cachine and is op erated by a two horse, power gaso line engine. The outfit will be a great labor saver, as it will enable Mr. llasel to turn out three times tbe anouut of work that be did under conditions which formerly prevailed in bis shop. The stitcher is used for stitching aud reiuforclug tops of boots and shoes, as well as stitching on solos of new work c.cd half soieing old shoes. Tbe cost of the latter will be tbe same as nailed work , which is $1.10 per pair. The other machinery is also adapted to new aud old work.aua Mr. llasel will now be able to handle expeditiously all work entrusted to him.
