new 320 acre homestead law. So soon
as their filings were complete last
spring they located on the laud, and
at ooce began tbeir improvements.
Tbey cleared tbe sage brush from 40
acres, plowed t and sowed it to tur
nips. Ou this raw dry laud, without
irrigation and oo moisture, except
the natural rainfall, they producd
:j0O but-els of tine turnips, some of
which will weigh six pounds apiece.
Tbey have T,0 hogs, and havt learned
that stock of all kiniis thrive well on
turuifs.
Tbey also bad 8'2 acres of rye aud 90
acres nf oats and barley from which
tbey eeenrded a good yield, and a
big pi ice for seed fcr a'-l they would
sell. i
Tbis fall tbey bare seeded a baif
section to rve and will also clear and
seed more land for tbe si ring crop'.
Mr. (Spicer thinks it will take two
or three years to get tbe ground tilled
down to a good soil condition and
tbat when tbat is diue big result
will be ordained. As it is now tb
giuuud is too porous to retain tbe
moisture ihbt will come from cultiva
tion. He says be bas a splendid water

One well is 91 feet deep and another
