THE TARIFF QVESTION
If you wish to learn more real facts

more com. lete in all-details than that

Just take a trip to some farming

have a talk witb any of tbe average

Business Man and Mr. Professional
Alan, facts aud figures, that you
never thought of and which can not be
refuted or contradicted by logic,
precedent or topbistry.
Wby?
Well, because those men have made
a-study of tbe question, and know
their subject! Home old codger once
laid: "Beware of tbe man of one
book." And yon hesitate well and
long before entering into a contro

thouub bis language may be as un

Have you noticed that the Senatois
and the congressmen of tbe Middle

Senator Bailey has introduced in
income tax amendment to the tariff
bill providing for a Btralgbt tax of
3 per cent on all incomes above $5,000
a year. It exempts all incomes from
federal, state, county and municipal
securities, salaries or au state officers
and incomes of corporations below
85,000. Tbe former law on this sub
ject provided for tax of 2 pel cent
on incomes of 14,000 and upwards.
Mr. Bailey does uot attempt to avoid
me constitutional questions and iu
effect challenges them. He estimates
tbat if bis amendment becomes a Law
it wid collect about 100 million dot
lars anually. It is pretty clear to 'he
ordinary mind tbat an income tax
will compel those best able to meet
their just proportion of taxation.
