typhoid fever, cancer of tbe stomach
developed, from wbieb be suffered in

Bro. Cbastain was born in Toot is
Country, Georgia, near the town of
liiwasaee, in June 2, 1842. Served
through the Civil war In Cnofederate
Army, was converted in fall of '64
attended Ft. Hearbee Academy N. C.
and wsa ordained to tbe full work of
tbe Baptist ministry in 18.0.
Married Eliza Wiggins in 18C8, who
died July 23, 1894. He held hia first
pastorate at Uardsciabble, Colorado
in 1871, and from there served
churches in Washington, Josephine
and Jackson Counties, Oregon, and
thence to Lakeview and Northern
California.
Was married to Elizabeth Mason, of
Goose Lake Valley, Jnne 2. .1897, who
survives bim.
Has one child liviug, Mrs. J. A.
Gotcher, with whom his widow resides
until sucb time as she can return to
her folks in Surprise Valley.
Many irlends followed the earthly
portion of Bro. Cbastain to its last
sting place, beeide bis first wife, in
tbe cemetery uear Williams. Jose
phine Co, Oregon.
