AN INTERESTING!
COUNTY PIONEER
Mr. James Foster, of Summer Lake,
wasthegnest of his daughter Mrs.
Schmlnk last week. Th Examiner
acKuowledits a pleasant call from
him. Mr Foster Is 81 years of age,
and is one of the finest specimens of
manhood at that age we ever met.
He stands over 6 feet tall, and la as
straight as an arrow. He has none
of the Infirmities of old age, aud wheu
at home, works every day about his
ffirm and orchard. He wearr clothes
of the latest cut, and In every way
has the air of a well-groomed man
of 4-5 or .jO ye tri,
He ia a very Interesting talker. Is
abreast of the times on all topics.
He came to Oregou in Is45, over-land
by ox team, aud has lived lu this
staie ever since, and ia brimful of ex
perieuces of ploueer life.
He first settled In the Willamette
valley, but for the past 35 years has
lived at Summer Lake In this county,
and la one of the most enthusiastic
men over our fruit aud other pro
ductions we have met.
Mr. Foster, up to late years, was a
breedrr of fine horsei, and we are In
formed that he rat-H-d two horses
that broke track records.
We were exceedingly pleased to
meet Mr. Pouter, and we wish him
many more years of usefulness.
Skating Itink Iteady
W. C. Ford, and wife, arrived In
town this week, from Prlnevllle, their
former home. Mr. Ford ia the pro
prietor of the new skating rink.
The skating rink will be ready for
Ita opening Sunday afternoon with
free admission for all. The building
has tieen enlarged, a fine floor laid,
and otherwise placed in tine condition
in der the direction of C D. Sessiona.
Thd skates were obtained through
J. E. Bernard & Son. The rink, as ia
the case elsewhere, will prove an at
traction to old anil young t becoming
winter evenings.
Dr. J, S. Leisure, of Manchester,
Oklahoma, arrived In town Suuday.
The doctor had been reading the Ex
amluer and thought Lakeview a
place of promise. He la dellgnted
with the town aud surrounding
country, and wouders how so goodly
a land could so long have been terra
incognita to the railroads. Since bis
arrival he has looked over the Grant
landa, the Irrigation reservoir sites,
and sees such tine prospects ahead
that he has decided to locate here
aud share our prosperity. The doc
tor baa a very pleasing address, and,
will, no doubt, win friends here.
