If there were really such n thins as a

choose a white or pearl or amethyst
mate. In divorce etitlons the appeal
ing husband or wife would merely
have to state that he or she was de
reived as to the soul color of the de
fendant. Experts would lie called In to
testify as to the ai ttial psychic tints of
the contestants, and a Jury would have
to pass uixmi the question as to wheth
er or not the tints harmonized. This
would pave the way to the establish
ment of feminine Juries, for It Is an
acknowledged fact that more men are
color blind than women. Persons sum

have to pass n soclnllT

were qualllled to decide the question of
soul harmony.
"What Is the fashionable shade In

anxious maidens desiring to lend the
mode.
As yet Mrs. Wletand has not stated
whether the mothers' custom of adorn

babies with pink Is consistent with her
Ideas of soul colors. If so. . It would

NEW TABLE KINKS.
Rock Candy For Coffee Instead of
Sugar Volcanoes of Rum.
"Have you noticed that many host
esses are serving rock candy crystals
Instead of sugar with after dinner cof
fee?" Inquired an observing woman.
"I've tried it myself and have found
that the prettiest effect Is gained by
buying an equal amount each of red
and white rock candy nnd mixing the
irregular shaped crystals in a low glasa
bonlion dish.
"These are served with a bonbon
spoon. There's an especial advantage
In this plan for those who want very
little sugar, as the smallest quantity
possible may be taken, less than an or
dinary piece of cut sugar. This rock
candy Is absolutely pure, very cheap
and gives n particularly delicious fla
vor to black coffee.
"Another new kink 1 noticed at a
luncheon was the passing of two little
glass dislieH with the salad course.
One dish held finely minced green pep
pers and the other tiny slices of little
new onloiui. The guests took what
they wanted and sprinkled It on the
salad, which was a combination of let
tuce, tomatoes and cucumbers.
"At the i.aine luncheon a fancy ome
let with burning rum was served In
stead of the usual sweet course. In
stead of the ordinary river of fire run
ning placidly around the platter, the
effect was quite spectacular and re
minded Die of miniature volcanoes. I
found that this effect was the result of
stacking lumps of sugar In heaps at In
tervals round the platter."
HOUSEHOLD NOTES.
A small quantity of vinegar boiled on
the range will counteract the odor of
boiled cabbage or other vegetables.
Where white undersllps are not used
the pillowcase should be of linen, as
the stripes of the ticking do not show
through this as plainly as through cot
ton. ! Nickel plating may be cleaned with
water and whiting or with water and
alcohol as easily as silver. Where there
Is a large amount of nickel to be clean
, ed gasoline will do the work well and
I quickly, but of course extra precau
tions must lie taken.
I In cleaning upholstered furniture do
! not beal directly upon the covering, as
i tbls helps to wear It out and scatters
1 the dust In clouds, but lay towels or
! thick cloths on top and tben do tbe
beating. These cloths should be care
fully gathered up and shaken out ev
ery little while.
If last year's linen suits look yellow
they may be whitened hy bolting In a
lather made In the proportion of a
pound of pure white soap to a gallon
' of milk. Itlnse thoroughly In several
: waters and blue slightly. A double
boiler should be used that the milk
may not scorch.
An lugenlous householder who want
ed to bave a cedar lined closet, but
hesitated at the expense, tried a good
grade of cedar shingles, put on over
lapping, as on a roof, lining tbe whole
i closet, with most excellent results'. Tbe
