The next morning ahe came to the

uess, roundne and delicacy of her
hands. I complimented her on them
and noticed afterward that she er
alsted In getting them smeared wltb
the Ink of the ribbon and the duxt and
oil of the machine, from her banda 1
was led to notice her complexion, her
figure and especially her foot, which
waa very dainty. Her eura. too, were
amall. a reliable token of breeding Be
sides these features, there waa a re
finement of manner about her that did
not accord with her cheap clothing. I
told her she looked too aristocratic for '
ber dress, and I waa much puzzled at
the way ahe received the comment. In
stead of tielug pleased she seemed dis
tressed. Hlnce ahe said there was more copy
ready for her I worked evenings my
self on the manuscript and at the cud
of the week It was finished. I made
the charge 20 rubles, which she gave
me before taking It away, ami I band
ed her back ten of them. She seemed
perfectly satisfied and the next morn
ing waa ready with more work.
She said she wished to work nights '

room In the same building as mine,
