The dull jet Is not eveu used now In
mourning, but the cut jet comes In
wonderful designs. Every woman is
glad ef its return to favor.
The success of a woman's costume
depends largely upon the skirt worn,
and the greatest attention should be
given te the shape, fit and bang of
this. The fashionable skirt of the day
Is like the one seen in the illustration
that fits sheathlike over the hips and
gracefully flares out beneath. It Is a
nine gored affair, with the paited sec
tions arranged belew the hips, and a
close and perfect fit is maintained
over these. JUDIC CHOLLET.

(Tier to the sensible woman. It Ia a
defiance of the Judgment of all wisa
medicine men. It Is a menace to com
fort and health. To carry It out takea
time, trouble and money and eliminates
all possibilities of economical dressing.
Yet the edict providing for the return
of long skirts has gone forth and must
be obeyed.
Cloth and net is a favorite combina
tion for waists that are to be worn
with the tailored suit. The blouse Is
usually of the net, with bands of chif
fon broadcloth.
The little dress seen In the cut Is a
pretty design for the small girl. A
nice fullness Is given the skirt by the
plaits coining from the square neck.
The puffed sleeves are comfortable
for warm weather.

Bookbinder.
This Is a game much enjoyed by
children and Is played by any number,
who sit In a circle, each holding a
book laid flat on bis clinched fists,
which are held out In front of him.
One, who has been chosen book
binder nnd stands In the nMie of the
circle. ,gics to any player nnd. seizing
that player's liook. attempts to rap bis
knuckles, which the holder of the liook
j tries to avoid by pulling back his
i bauds quickly. If the bookbinder suc
! ceeds lu rapping the player's knuckles,
I the one r:pHil liocoines bookbinder.
land the tirst bookbinder takes his seat,
j Otherwise he replaces the book and .
! trios with some one else. j
i The bookbinder may pretend to solxo
a book without actually doing so, and
; tf the boliler pulls away his bauds so j
that the book falls he must take the
leader's place Just ns if his knuckles ,
had liocn nipped. The leader can make
, the game quite exciting if he runs j
quickly from one to another, pretend
ing to take up one book and then setz-
ng another, thus keeping the players
constantly on the lookout.
Red Cap and Biue Cap.
The players seat themselves in a cir
cle to represent tailors at work on a
piece of cloth. A handkerchief or a
duster will answer the purpose.
A leader, or foreman, is chosen, and
every one of the company is named In
turn Red Cap, Blue Cup. Black Cap,
Yellow Cap, Brown Cap. etc. The
leader then takes the piece of cloth
and pretends to examine the work
which is supposed to have been done
by the workman.
He is supposed to discover a bad
stitch and asks. "Who did It. Blue
Cap?"
The latter Immediately answers, "Not
I. sir."
"Who then, sir?"
"Yellow Cap. sir."
Yellow Cap must then answer at
once In the same manner and name an-
oth,'r workman. Any one who fails to
I answer to his name pays a forfeit.
If carried on In a brisk manner, this
game w ill cause endless amusement.
A Stone With Roots.
The visitor to the Falkland Isles
scattered here and there singular shap-
j ed blocks of what appear to be w eath
er leaten and moss covered Iniwlders
In various sizes. Attempt to turn one
of these bowlders over, and you will
meet with a real surprise, because the
stone Is actually anchored by roots of
great strength. In fact, you will find
that you are trifling with one of the
native trees. No other country In thu
world lias such a peculiar "forest"
growth.
"Oh, That Tooth!"
There are no dcnt.sts In Koren.
When an adult has the toothache, he
Is at liberty to pull the tooth or stand
the ache, but when a child under
twelve is thus a filleted the father and
mother must give their written con
sent to have the tooth extracted, and
three men must give their opinion In
writing that they believe the patient
will live through the operation. It
thus takes two or three days, and by
that time the ache may have stopped.
An Obliging Patient.
Arabella and her baby sister, Rachel,
were playing hospital one morning and
were furnishing all the patients In
their own persons. In the course of
events Arabella was beard to exclaim,
"There, that's the fourth leg I're
broken this morning!"
