After a most successful year's work
tbe Adel School closed June lltb
with a picnic at Sweeney's Grove.
Lowell's Immortal words, "O what
Is so rare as day In Jane?", seemed
particularly appropriate, as the day
was an Ideal one for an outing.
Long before noon merry parties
might be seen wending their wsy op
tbe canyon, occasionally stopping to
permit some of their members to in
dulge in thespoit which Immortalized
Isaak Walton.
A party soon gathered in tbe grove
where games, swinging and social chat
became tbe older of tbe day until
about one o'clock, when tbe fishing
parties began to arrive with their
troot. And what a catch I Mrs. Pope,
an amateur, distingoished herself by
bringing in nine speckled beantiea.
Mrs. Routson brongbt in seventeen,
Mr. Wakefield nine while others of
tbe party brongbt in enough to make
a grand total of fifty five. Soon
every body was busy, preparing fish,
making cottee, spreao'lbg-tables, and
making lemonade. 1 " ''"'
A bountiful dinner with flsb enough
and many to spare and wbiob proved
tbe ladies of Adel to be adepts in tbe

hour was spent by young and old
around the tables.
The dinner over, a short program

others feeding Mrs. Uivan and Mr.

that a picture of Mesdames Wible,
