A POLITICAL MACHINIST
The Silver Lnke Lender in its Issue

the agitation that baa been caused, at
that place, under the guie of tuoviug
the county seat, by devtiug alniont
1U entire space to a tirade of abuse
of the county judge. Tho feeliug
aroused over the county seat affair is
but a cloak to hide the ambitious of
the Leader to build up a political ma
chine so that the "hungry" may e
fed at the expense of the taxpayers of
the couuty, aud if the preseut judge
could only be displaced, how easy it
might be for its editor and the other
agitators to formulate such a policy
and tben select the public officers to
carry out the program. We wonder if
Mr. Holder would not like to be the
county judge himself, and then select
bis co-owners of the Leader to till
the remainder of the county offices.
But let us assure Mr. Holder that no
such policy shall ever be a part of the

all expenditures of public money, over F. V. PAYNr
which the county has any jurisdic
tion, must first be authorized by .the
county commissouers and the county
judge while attending to county busi
ness. The county Judge did all that
he could under the law-, and if be bad
acted in any other way than that in
which be did, the people could, and
would have repudiated bis actions and
refused to paythe reward, if it bad
been earned. He called a special ses
sion of the county court to consider
the matter of a reward. But the Lea
der finds fault that the court did not
meet at once, but the law says that
commissioners must be given at least
ten days' notice before a special term
can be convened. It would be quite
useless to follow up each silly excuse
that the Leader mentions in order to
abuse the Couuty Judge, because eve
ry one can see the motive. Mr. Hol

political ladder in Lake county and
teach the people how "we used to do
in Sherman county.'' But here in
Lake couuty our people are by far
too intelligent aud of a different type
to be deceived by any such schemes,
