two Representatives to elect, ami as
Luke hits one candidate and KlHiuath
hns every assurance of petting the
Senator, either Crook or Oraut conn
ty i- entitl-lto a Representative, and
will no doubt have a candidate in the
field befote long, if not already. With
end a distribution of Representatives
to the legislature this district will be
adequately represented at Salem next
winter. Graut county is cut off from
this Senatorial district and is joined
to Harney and Malheur, but remains
in thia Representative au.-.ict, othat
it lies between Crook aod Grant to
supply the other Rep resentative,
which these counties should easily
agree upon. Klamath county is very
wiling, it seems, that Lake county
should have a Representative this
time, and Lake is perfectly willing
that Klamath furo:sh the Senator.
This mutual feeling will insure both
counties what they ask for in the way!
of support for their candidate. The
way the wind is blowing now, there
will be a scrap for the nomination in
Klamath of a Senator, as we under
stand there are three aspirants; Mr.
Holgate, of Bonauza, Dr. Merryman
and Judge Willils of Klamath Falls.
Of course, but one can be nominated,
and as, some one of them is almost
sure to get the nomination, unless
their unfortunate contest brings out
a candidate in Crook county, who
might win against three in the field
in Klamath, there will be easy sailing
for the successful one. It would be
much more pleasant and safer too, if
Klamath could agree upon one candi
date and all work for bis election.
While the U. S. battleship fleet was
in harbor in Brazil, the rumor gained
considerable circulation that a plot
was being formed by anarchists to
blow up the fleet in South American
waters. The rumor, while hardly giv
en credence, created a great deal of
excitement, and the president baa or
dered the fleet of battleships and tor
pedo boat destroyers to remain close
together and sail in battle line, ready
at all times to meet any possible at
tack. The Japanese battleship are
being closely watched by the navy de
partment. Fred H. Mills, of Klamath Falls,
announces his candidacy for nomina
tion as District A torney for the
Second Prosecuting Attorney District,
comprising Klamath and Lake coun
ties. Mr. Mills has been engaged in the
practicr- of ".aw in Klamath Falls for
several years.
W. W. Steiwer, who was on trial in
the federal court in Portland, on a
conspiracy charge in connection with
the HalJ Mays case has piead guilty
and takes the witness stand against
Hall and Mays.
II. M. Cake, of Portland, has an
nounced himself a candidate for the
Republican Primary nomination for
United States Senator to succeed C,
W. Fulton.
H. A. Lrattaiu teems to be the
choice of Lake aud Klamath county
for Representative to the legislature
from this district.
