ever, will aay Unit if all the nsmes of
the different wild animal were written
hero they would make a loiitf attlclu
themselves; eu III ico to any, there are
several varieties of bmIiiimIm, which 1
hnd never seen before. The museum
is situated iutit outeldo the Central
park, on the went side, and Is a free
exhibit, like the tiienuyfirle iimldo the
park. Tho building Is beautifully do
sinned, live stories high. 70 feet lohtf
mid mi feet wide, with u 'iiKI-foot
The material used in its construction
Is tho beat (juulity of stone.
Inhibits have been placed in the
three lower stories, the airsiitfement
of which 1 will try to describe, for
that is about all that can be doue in a
short article :
. When eutciluK the center of the
building frontluK the "L", the first
room has exhibits of all the tueteoi ites
found in the United Htates, and one
from (Jreeulaud, this bolu the largest,
weighing tous, one from near Port
laud, Oregon, v.elhln 341,107 pounds,
and many other smaller ones from
dilfereiit parts of the country. Xbl
room Is HO by 100 feet square. Here
also the comparative tizo of the sun
and other planets are shown. The
sun Is represented by a ball of about
five inches in diameter, and the earth
represented by a small bole, about the
size of a small pin Lead, with a light
plunluic through. In an adjoining
room is shown photographs of the
beavenely bud lea. The room to the
rltcht is about 80 by 300 feot, where all
tbe different woods of the United
Htatos are on exhibit
To the left a room of tbe same size,
are exhibited tbe Indian relics, totem
poles, etc. In the "L", Indian relics
from all over North America, also
dressed in their native costumes.
' On tbe second floor, In tbe central
room are mounted animals, mostly of
tbe larger varieties, to tbe right
mounted skelitons of animals, some
extinct, mounted animals, mounted
mauiels, artificial bugs, butterflies,
extinct animals, etc.
To the left, relics of Indians, pre
historic man, and tbe present age, too
numerous to mention. In the "L"
room are mounted birds of every de
scriptor, from all over the world,
looking life-like and life-size.
The third floor being similar to tbe
two lower floors, I will omit describ
ing them, except the "L" where there
Is a beautiful exhibit of birds In their
natural haunts, nesting and feeding
tbeir young.
All the exhibits, which are not too
lurge, are In upright show cases, well
arranged for Inspection, but It would
require a year to critically examine
the entire museum exhibit After
making three visits, I feel as though
only a small part of any one room was
seen by me, and even then 1 came
away each time mentally tired out,
very well pleased to get away from all
tho wonderful things to be seen, and
enjoyed tbe visits.
