LAKriVIBW. ORBOON, NOVEMBER l 107.
The proposed new Farcels Poet law
would naturally find opposition aruong
country merchant al over .be coun
try, but if mich a law ia to be enacted
at tbe next, or any other congress,
8enator Fulton's amendment to the
bill will render it lea damaging to the
country merchant. This amendment
asks for a classified rate, based on the
interstate character of tbe parcel to
be shipped, which will make tbe rate
less en parcels tbe shipment of which
originate in tbe same state as tbe dea
tination. thus protecting tbe interior
merchant who bas paid the freight on
bis goods from tbe East. Senator
Fulton is in favor of a postal savings
bank.
As a result of attacks made on
Senator 11. S. Nixon and George
Wingfield through the colums of the
Nevada Mining News, of Reno, George
Wingfield knocked the editor of that
journal down and threw bim bodily
out of a brokerage company's office
in Reno one day last week. George
entered tbe place ou some, business
and the editor of the Nevada Mining
News was there, and started to speak
to Wingfield. but before the words
were uttered George bit the fellow,
knocking bim down, and then grabbed
bim and threw bim out of the office.

Possibly news items may seem scarce
in The Examiner this week, but we
will ask our readers to toletate tbe
shortage, and will offer as an excuse
the sickness of Mrs. Metzker, who is
suffering from blood poison in her
hand, caused from a siuail sliver in
tbe palm of the hand ant! getting
cold in the wound. The situation
was quite serious for a few days, but
we are able to report the baud much
better at this time.

Mr. F. L. Wright, accompanied by
Mr. J. J. OReily, of Cobalt, Canada,
arrived in Lakeview Monday. Mr.
Wright owns mining property in the
Pine Creek district, and Mr. O'Reilly
is an xperienced mining man who,
it is said, has secured an option on
some Windy Hollow mining property
for a Pittsburg, Pa., company which
will take ap if his report is satisfac
tory. He is taking 150 pounds of ore
from the Windy Hollow mines away
with bim to be tested and tho results
of tbe tests will decide the company
in taking np tbe options.
There has evideutly been sufficient
pressure brought to bear upon W. M.
Ladd to induce bim to agree to pay
th depositors of tbe defunct Title
I Guarantee &, Trust Co. bank, of Port
land, in full. There are to be no
preferred creditois of tbe bunk, tbe
state and tbe city of Portlaud and tbe
Ladd Jfc Tilton Bank, who rushed in
as soon as it was seen that the bank
was in Btraits to secure tbe preferred
securities of tbe bank, are to take the
same chances as other creditors.
