ORKOOV OCTOlH R J. 7 The ( otn nercal Club. We have often called attention to the need ot a commercial club of some riescript ion in Lakeview ; we are now in tho Hi t of again mentioning tbe fact. Most of t cities hid) own munities that have shown marked development and growth in the past several year, owe their growth I" part to the work of a dub. You may call it a commercial club, a push club a development club, a business u. oil's league, or hunt a fancier name, but if its obict is the development o; the immediate community, it is the thiug we want. There never was a time when strangers were coming to Lake view 8 they are now. We don't mean 1 the throng of people who have been i looking for a timber claim or home stead in the restoration just being effected we mean men who are look ing over our country for investment, for homebuildiug, or helping us to grow ana aeveiop our country, gei a railroad, and do and secure all h things we bare wanted tu do acd se- cure for so long. Real estate men tell us that they are receiving requests for information all the time. It is one of tbe main objects of a commercial club to make the visit of I strangers pleasant , to give them an opportunity to meet our business men, stock men, and people generally ; to provide the means of letting tbe world of investment and Homebuild ing know what we have for them here. We Deed such a club for ourselves. We need a place where our business men can meet and talk over tbe needs of the town ; we need a place w here the people of the county can meet and talk over tbe needs of tbe county; we need an organization which can speak authoritatively for the business in terests of Lakeview in taking up auy proposition offered by other people, or other parts of the county, or the country at large; we need a place where plans for advancement, or for improvement of what we have, or for bettering conditions affecting people generally, may be discussed by our people as a whole; and finally we need a place where we can all meet occasionally for social or business purposes, and without working up a c elebration or special meeting. Let some one the Mayor for in stance call the people together to effect such an organization. If that is not tbe method, let some business man visit some of bis fellows and effect plans for an organization. Let as have tbe club. It will benefit all the people. Real estate men will be helped; hotels will entertain more guests; business bouses will have more people to provide for; every line of business will benefit by such an organization. We are talking rail roads, irrigation schemes, etc., let us have an authoritative organization of business men to take up these ques tions when tber are presented, as they will be soon. Tbe task confronting the land office officials in tho Lakeview land office for the remainder of this year is a difficult one, but we have men whose courtesy and competency insures tbe successful work of restoring the sev eral hundred thousand acres of laud thrown out of the temporary reserves. U If you want to catch at BERNARD'S. X If you want to sprinkle your Lawn get your ;HOSE and Sprinkler of us. If you want a BATH we can furnish the outfit. . We also have a full and complete line of Hardware, Stoves and Tinware, a good Plumber and Tinner in con nection with the business. Kvery one should render such assistance a possi I If to land office otllclals in making the restoration successful. lnpiter riuvious got busy and start ed with the homestead claimants in their rush for settlement last Saturday morning Those who made any effort Ht settlement and improvement of homesteads had a taste of the real pioneer experience building cabins, etc., iu the atiow. These same home steaders will be in good condition when they have traveled to Lakeview and stood iu line before the hind othVo door f r a month. And yet, they seem nothing dBiiuted by the prospects, nor by the stormy begin ning of the race. When daylight showed the snowy coat worn by Mother Karth Saturday, it also showed two men iu hue iu front of the laud office. We notice that some f our ex changes from i astern Oregon coun ties, w here large stock ranches predom inate, that the progress of the country is greatly retarded by these largo laud holdings. Jasper Jennings, who has been on trial in Josephine county for nearly two years for the murder of bis father, and who was once convicted, has been discharged from custody. Judge Hanna dismissed the case a few days ago. Dora Jennings, who was also tried tor the same crime, and was acquitted, died recently. . 17. S. Senator Wa. E. Borah, who was indicted for land frauds, is on trial in Boise, Idaho. Senator Borah worked with the prosecution of Hay wood for the murder of ex-Governor Frank Stunenburg. A John Doe was indicted along with Borab, and it is said this John Doe was Governor Stunenburg.
