Reclamation service, as re 0tvla fh frasihilitV. the aniOUUt of water to be stored, etc. Prank C Baker, one of the best known printers in the state of Oregon and who organized the Typographical Union in Portland, and a politician of nnU died in Portland on the 2d of January, after a short Illness. Frank Baker was known throughout he state if not as a politician, as a printer. He held the state printing office for eight years, and accumualted quite a fnrtnne there. He was chairman of the Republican State Central commit tee, and resigned that position about a year ago. What is going to be done to indu g the legislature t its coming session to reduce the burden of taxation to Lake County? Lake County is second in population and wealth of Oregon Counties, yet there are eleven counties that pay less state taxes. The Klamath Falls gentlemen, who are spending a week in Lakeview on l&n2 business, are mighty good to the local newspaper reporters ; presuma bly with a view to influencing a good report as to their method of whiling away the leisure hours. Last Saturday night was the coldest of the winter, the weather instruments at The Examiner Office, recording 2 degrees below zero. That was the lowest point reached last winter. Be it remembered that a session of the County Court, of Luke County, Oregon, for the transaction of Coun ty Badness, was begun and held at the County Court House, in Lake view, in said County, on Wednesday, the 2d day of January, 1007. In the matter of the Tax Levy for the year 1007: After a careful exam ination of the taxable property of Lake County, Oregon, as shown by the Assessment Roll for the year lOOt's and of the probable amount of money necessary to pay the expencos of said County for the ensuing year, and for the pupos of purchasing inatial for the construction of a Court House build ing for said Lake County, Oregon, and for such other purposes as is re qu ired by law : It is hereby ordered by the County Court of Lake County, Oregou, that a Tax be levied on all taxable property in said county, as shown by the Assessment Roll for the year 1000, and that the Rate of Levy for the sev eral purposes be aud the same is here by fixed as follows: For County puposes, (3i mills) .0035 For County School purposes, (5 mills) .0050 For County Road purposes (1 mill) -.0010 For purchasing material for Court House building, (6 mills) .0005 Total levy tor County, School, Road, and for the purpose of puchasing materail for Court House building, (16 mills) .0160 And that the said Rate of Sixteen Mi lis Via lAviod nn pneh dollar of taxa ble Property as shown by the Assess-; ment Roll of 1006, and also on snch property as may be assessed by the Sheriff of the said Lake County, Ore gon, in conformity with law. It is hereby ordered that the Lake County Telephone and Telegraph Company, The Moss Telephone and Telegraph Company, Bunting Tele phone and Telegraph Company, Lakeview-Pine Creek Electric Compa ny (Telephone and Telegraph) and Dent Telegraph and Telephone Com pany, Corporations existing under ID laws of the State of Oregon each are hereby granted the right to maintain and operate their respective lines and fixtures, for telephone purposes upon the public roads and highways of Lake County Oregon, where the Eame are now located, oi may be here after designated by this Court, on said roads, for a period of twenty-tive years, commencing at the date of the completion of the several telephone lines as already located but in no eense to apply to extentions, provided that each of the Telephone Corpoa tions shall give to all of the officers of the County Court, for official use, service with reasonable dispatch, over their several lines free of charge. In the matter of of the petition of J. L. Cliff, JohnC. Green and others, for the opeuiugof road in Roud Dis trict No. 1, the saute having been thoroughly examined it has been found defective in almost every re quirement of the law governing the openiug of public touds, the Court therefore, having no jurisdiction in the matter, the petition is dismissed. The Court In a former petition from the same ntitioncts, went to some : pains to point out the mandatory re jquiremeuts of the law, each one of I which would have to le complied with, before the County Court would have jurisdiction in the matter. In . the present petitiou, none of these re- Quirements have been complied with. The Court would agaiu suggest, that all petitions for roads should bo first submitted to oi prepared by some competent lawyer who understands the law relating to the subject of County Roads.
