We recojmlze the profound obligation under which Oregon ret8 to President Kooaevelt fr IiIk active and determined, effort on behalf of the Lewia and Clark Ceu tennlal, and we plinlfe ourmd ves to testify the Hincerity of thiM appreciation by a rousing majority for the Republican ticket in June and Hptiu In November. In thin connection we especially Indorse the tireless labors of Senators Mitchell and Fulton arid ItepresentativeH Hermann and Williamson. We instruct the delegates for this convention to the Republican National Convention at Chicago to rote rirst and lat for Tliecxlore Roosevelt for President, utnl to use all honorable means for lirln iny his nomination to pass. , THE DELEGATION IN CONQKE5S For t lie first time in years the State of Oregon Is represented in both houses of Congress by a strong, harmonious, united and effective delegation, inferior to none from the West. Their efforts In Itehalf of the Nation, their party and their state have leen crowned with signal stic cesx. and we hereby express to them oil confidence and esteem and pledge them our support in their further efforts to advance the Interests of Oregon and tlie Pacific Coast. MONEY . Tliauks to the courage and wisdom of two Republican Administrations and four Republican Congresses, the money of the Nation has been securely established upon the gold standard, tins stand ard of the enlightened nations of the world. The per capita circulation is the largest in our history, and every dollar of pajajr and coin Is as good ns gold. ' . . We commend the measures now pending in Congress, at the instance of Republican memlH-rs, further amending the currency and banking laws in the direction of safety and elasticity. TARIFF We renew our allegiance to tlie principle of protection to American industries. The merits of the Dingley law are attested by the unprecedented prosperity of the Nation since i passage in 1S!7. Schedules must lie changed from time to time, ns new conditions arise, lint when tin' tariff Is re vised it must Ik- by the friends, and not by the foes, of American industry. THE TRUSTS We heartily commend the fearless and determined course pursued by President Roosevelt and-Attorney-General Knox toward the trusts, ami we point with pride to tlie hostility aroused against the Administration among the speculators of Wall street ami corporations thnt defy the law. Ols'dli-nce to the la w against monopoly inflicts no hardship on any honest industry, and the action of tlie President in tlie Northern Securities merger and other cases has only served to check dangerous sM'culation and encourage every legitimate enterprise. THE PHILIPPINES We indorse the policy enunciated by President McKinley and followed by Secretary Taft of "the Philippines for the Filipinos," and we especially commend the earnest and persistent efforts made by Seuator Mitchell for lower tariffs between the Philippines and tlie United States. We hold that the Philippines must be retained by the United State (or their ow n good ns well as for a base of American Influence In the Far Kast, but that Justice requires the least possible burdens upon their commerce with the United States,,that. they may be cemented to us by ties of self interest and affection. In the Interest of Pacific develoyment, we demand for the Philippines the Maine. libera.) hh1 Iwnell cent treatment that has lieen accorded to Hawaii nut Porto ttico. Proud of the history and achievements of our purty, ami esKx;lally of the present Administra tion and the beneficent results that our tuition Is receiving therefrom, and particularly our old Oregon Country, we confidently submit our cause to the patriotic citizens of our state for Indorsement and earnestly rippeal to them to show their gratitude and appreciation to President Roosevelt and our Republican leaders in Congress for honoring our history and aiding in the development of our match less resources. .
