OKKIIOX LAKEVIEW SADDLES Recognized at the Ht Vaquero Saddle 3 1 Q-J ), ml We, the pastor, superintendent and teachers of the Sunday school to which your children belong, send you a lew words ol 'grccliug.in the name ol" the (ireat Teacher. The design of the thcSunday school is twofold: (1 ) To make plain to our pupils the truths taught in the Holy Script tires, and (L) to lead them to love and obey the Lord Jesus Christ, who is set forth in these Scriptures. It is exceedingly dillicult for us to succeed in this with out the help of your parental authority and influence. Vour opinions, teachings, and example have immense power with your children. A child will for ti long time believe w hat his father believes 'and love w hat his mother loves, in spite of all that the school, the church anJ the world may teach. It is not strange, therefore, that we greatly desire to secure your co-operation in our work, and it is the object of this missive to show you what you may do to aid us. If we seem over-zealous in this matter, attribute any ex cess you may detect to our real and profound interest in the child or children coining from your home to our class es. We arc deeply interested in their spiritual and eternal welfare. ( 1 I Show, is far as you are able, an appreciation of our work. Let the children see that you have faith in the school and its objects. A word in our favor may beget in the child a strong faith in us, and this will give force to our teachings. (2) If you are not acquainted with the school or with our methods, or if from any cause you have doubts concerning us, or even slight prejudices against us, we re spect fully ask you not to pvc expression to such doubts or nrciudiees before vour children. Write to us. Visit and remonstrate with us. In any way you may deem wisest and best, let us know your convictions and desires, but do not unnecessarily awaken suspicion or distrust in the minds of vour children relative to their religious teachers. (II) See that your children feel the claims of the school upon them. If we are doing them good, if we give them knowledge, if our services are worth anything to them, see that they appreciate it. Show them what ben efits they are themselves deriving from our instructions, that their regard may not merely be based upon your opinions, but upon an intelligent appreciation of the value of the Sunday school. (1) Send them to the Sunday school regularly and punctually. y authority, by argument or by persuasion secure their presence every Sabbath the year through, and at the proper time, that the order of the school may be promoted. (f) We say above, send your children to the Sunday school. May we amend by suggesting that you bring them? Can vou not find the time? Can vou not come as visitor, as teacher or as pupil? We have classes for adults where the word of Ood is expounded, and where you would find both pleasure and profit. We are in almost constant need of new teachers. Have you not gift or call in this direction? Vour regular attendance would be a great blessing at least to your own children. ((5) Kncourage and assist your children to prepare their Sunday school lessons at home. A little aid in this direction will greatly augment our powers. We have no authority to compel perfect recitations. We are not per mitted to punish neglect or failure. Our work is volun tary, and depends for its success upon the free will of our pupils. A very little home co-operation would render our teaching much more effective. In some families it is the custom to recite the "(lolden Text" of each week's lesson at the table during the week. Others have an "at home" lesson meeting on Saturday evening or earlier in the week for the preparation of Sunday's lesson. All such help re-acts on the parents, and blesses the children by giving to their homes n higher aim and holier atmosphere. Rev. J. H. Stark:, Pastor. I'kof. W. M. Vallandigham, Supt.
