generally eonceileil to be half the Hock,
we cannot too highly emphasize the

About twenty rive years the first hantl
of sheep was taken into Montana, ami
this small flock has increased until now.
according to the Department of Agri
culture's figures, there are over t,200,
800 sheep in the state, or more than one
seventh of the whole ninnter in the
United States. In the year liK)l there
were 8,000,000 lambs added to the flock
of Montana, and 14,000,000 pounds of
wool were produced at an average of 13.
43 cents per pound. The fjtate Board of
Sheep Commissioners of Wyoming lias
just published a report showing the total
number of sheep in the state on July 1 to
! 6,724,476, which is a large increase
over last year. The wool clip for the
year amounted to 32.903, 130 pounds, an
increase of 3,000,000 pounds over 1901.
From these figures it will be seen that
Wyoming now ranks first among tiie
states and territories in wool production.
