John Penland has bought the Scam mon ranch between Alturas and Cedar ville, his father tells us and has moved with his family to his new place. He has sold his Bidwell property to C. L. Peterson. Since our last issue the Modoc Fair has come to a successful close after a full week of entertainment. The second best the horses came out the sain and "Balerie" won the heat and money. The second race was the 10 mile re lay race. This race create i more ex citement than any race during the meeting. Last Saturday Frank Lane bought .'12) acres of road land a Ijoining Lakeview, in fact it nearly encircles the low . It begin at the race track west of town and is one continus strip of laud taking in that portion lying lajtween his place now occupied by J V . Mikol and John Clark's place in town. Then it runs up Deadman canyon for nearly i a mile and goes north along the hillside to a point on a line even with the Slash road. Mr. Lane will at once begin the im provement of his property, and thus forego his trip to California for the w in ter as intended. The road from town will probably be moved up on the hill side to his old place, and the land w ill all be fenced. AH the vacant land on the south will le laid out in town lots, and altogether it will bo juito an addi tion to Lakeview. Sheepmen were scrambling for leed which seemed to bo almost en tirely exhausted and they had been hop ing for a storm for many weeks. Saturduy the long looked for came with 10 hundredths of an inch; Sunday followed with 71 hundredths and Mon day 10 hundredths, including some snow.
