C'lapp, formerly the attorney general of his state. Senator Elect Clapp Is 49 years old aud a Iloosler by Mrtli. When he was 7 years old. his parents removed to Wisconsin, whore the future senator was educated. He was admitted to the bar In 1S73 and located In St. rani in 1SS0. Mr. Clapp Las lon been politically prominent In Minnesota. He has pained a reputa tion as an orator and is familiarly known as "The Wrick Eagle of Min nesota." Another of tbo veterans to go Is Chandler of New Hampshire, who fail ed of re-election. He will be succeeded by Judge Henry E. Hurnhain, who has risen to the senatorshlp through vari ous minor olliccs. lie Is 50 years of age uud a graduate of Dartmouth. Judge Iiurultam gained his title by service as probate judge of Ilillsboro county. He was a niem!er of the New Hampshire house of representatives In 1S73-4 and also at the time of his election as a United States senator. Like his confrere of Minnesota, Judge Burnham is a noted speaker. He Is of course a Republican. Chilton of Texas after one term In the senate gives way to Joseph Weldcu Bailey, the young man of 37 who has been the Democratic, leader In the house. He Is a tall, handsome, stu dious man nnd has served five terms In the house of representatives, a very good record fur so young a man.
