It Is ordered that two hundred and fifty ($250.00) dollars is hereby appro priated for use in Iload District No. 12, and a warrant therefor is ordered drawn in favor of F. II. Levens is the leading spirit in a novel plan to irrigate the sagebrush lands of Harney county. The proposi tion is (and the contract has been let) to sink a well in the center of each eection of land located so that the water from one well can be put on each quarter sec tion. The water will be pumped into large reservoirs with a traction engine. By this means the one engine will fur nish power to raise the water on the sev eral sections that have been filed on by the promoters of this enterprise. In or der that no time or energy shall be lost it is also proposed to attach a 12-foot sickle bar to the engine, by means of winch the virgin sagebrush forest will be cut down as the iron horse moves from place to place. I The Redding Free Press says that the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Rail road Company, lesseeof theOregon Short Line, have run a survey line across. Har ney. Lake and Klamath counties from Idaho to connect with theOregon Mid land, aiid that the Midland will contin ue west to Eureka. This is the first in timation of such survey that has come to the knowledge of Lake eoiinty people. It is rumored on good authority that the Armour Packing Company ha re cently contracted with the United states Government for six million pounds of live beef to rome from the Pacific Coast for use in China. That will represent 12,000 head of cattle averaging 500 pounds each. Cattlemen on the Pacific Coast will have to hustle to supply the de mand. Remember the grand farewell concert to be given in honor of Prof. A. A. Gra ham at the opera house to-morrow (Friday) evening.
