Mr. Jahn presented a copy
of this year’s budget in the
new PPBS form. The budget is
more lengthy, however, It ap­
pears it will be easier to un­
derstand after the budget com­
mittee become used to the
changes.
The board members decided
the buses were sufficient for
this year and they would not
purchase new ones.
Mr Jahn explained to the
board what happened concern­
ing the breakdown of the small
bus on a recent trip to Port­
land. Precautions are to be
taken to see that this doesn’t
happen again.
The bills were presented for
payment, and after discussion
a motion was made to pay
them.
The board then went into
executive session, according to
ORS 192 660, concerning re­
quests by/or reports on per­
sonnel and students, sub-sec-
tion one and two.

due to family deaths.

served by the hostess before
the evening of cards.

mouth, a former resident here,,
was featured in articles and;
pictures in two Salem news­
papers last week for combining |
her careers of motherhood,
earning a degree in music at I
OCE, starting a practice in
teaching piano, and composing
a piece of music that won sec­
ond prize in a national contest.
On top oi all this she commut­
ed more than 50 milts each
day to classes for two of the
four years spent in completing
her degree. Since moving to
Monmouth, Mrs. Megargel’s
husband, Monty, has been com­
muting to his job at the Detroit
Ranger Station, nearly 70
miles away.
Mrs. Megargel feels that she
was only able to achieve her
goal through the cooperation
of her husband in helping with
the three children, Alan 14,
April, 8, and Forest, 5. In
fact, the entire family had to
agree to the plan to make a
real go of it. She is now the
assistant to Dr. A. Laurence
Lyon, the professor from
whom she obtained much of
her musical background, in the
VIP strings program. This is
a private organization which
teaches violin to pre-school
children in Monmouth. They
have classes twice weekly.
With a degree in music edu­
cation, Mrs. Megargel hopes to
teach eventually in a public
school. For now, she enjoys,
giving private lessons in her
home where she can spend
some time around her chil­
dren She has made no definite
plans for returning to school
and working towards a mas­
ter’s degree, but admitted. “I
probably will.”
