Fuel Conservation Starts In The Home
The heating and cooling
of buildings requires about
one sixth of the total energy
expended in the United States.
Much of this energy is wasted
because buildings are so poor
ly insulated that heat is lost
in winter and air condition
ing equipment runs overtime
in summer. This applies to
most older homes and coru-
mercial buildings, and sur
prisingly, occurs in many
new structures as well.

homes 15 years old or older
have no insulation at all and
nearly all homes are inade

standards.

else, fuel costs for the con

the future. Fuel economists

will increase at an annual
average rate of about eight
per cent. At this rate, fuel
prices will double in ten
years.
Here are some recommen
dations from the W.R. Grace
specialists on how consumers
can lower fuel and air condi
tioning costs and at the same
time do their bit to cut down
on air pollution.
