Youth Drowns In
Little North Fork
An 18-year-old Salem youth
drowned Saturday while swim

Fork of the Santiam River
about 5 miles west of Mill City.
State police said Robert Lee
Fox. of 690 Arleta Place NE,
died about 5 p. m. when he
was apparently pulled under
by the whirlpool from the falls.
■Witnesses told police Fox
and two friends were attemp
ting to swim across a deep
pool at the bottom of the falls
when one of the swimmers
called for help. They said Fox
went to help but was pulled
under. The body was recover
ed a short time later, police
said.
The body was taken to Rig
